Maidana Did Way Better vs Alexander Then Given Credit For

I, probably like many others have never watched that fight again since the night it happened. Who could blame anyone? But, I just bared through it and watched it.

Things I noticed, Alexander like usual was pulling punches, albeit not as much as in some fights, but the crowd would go crazy every time he threw for some reason. He wasn't landing, especially clean as HBO's crew was suggesting.

Kellerman was for whatever reason bias towards Alexander, of course Roy was. Was really odd. Not sure why they were pushing for Alexander.

I think rd 2 was easily Maidana, and you could give Maidana 3-4 also in close rds. There were a few there rds that Maidana could have been given, but Alexander won that fight because of the clinching.

Overall, it wasn't the bad outing that people make it out to be. First fight at 147, against a top ten fighter, who is bigger. Maidana wasn't training hard or all that interested in boxing at this point in his career.

I thought Maidana had his case of winning some of the first few rounds, but from about round 4 or 5 on he fought like he was drunk and had zero balance. He looked awful.

I thought he won 2-4, but yes, it was like he quit trying. He lacked any motivation in this fight.

He had a huge promotional push behind him there for a while, and that often bleeds over into the HBO commentary. (Though I usually find their actual scoring to be mostly non-delusional.) I've never actually found him to be all that watchable, and I remember hoping Maidana would KO him. That's probably why people hold that loss against Maidana so much.

No he didnt, he got manhandled and lost every single round.

One of the judges gave him 1 round though, i guess you can make a case for Maidana winning one round but that's really stretching it.

**** on him by telling the truth? He got completely dominated by Alexander and then cried that the weight was too much for him and almost retired

Maidana didn't know what to do. He got very frustrated and it was a wrap by the 2nd half of the fight. Nothing close there.

One thing though is that, yes there was too much holding by Devon. If the ref warned Devon early on perhaps we would see a different fight BUT that said, Devon wasn't doing as much holding in the 2nd half of the fight and just out-boxed Maidana.

I'm not saying Maidana won. Everyone knows the clinching was an issue. Alexander stayed on the bike, tried to keep it at range, and pulled a lot of punches. Maidana not getting close was clearly the gameplan, and clinching was a major part of that.

All I'm saying is Maidana didn't look that bad despite how the fight went down, and tactics used. He arguably won 2-4. 2 was definitive, 3-4 were close, but those were prime example rounds of Alexander not really landing much and the crowd/commentators going crazy.
