  • Comments Thread For: James DeGale To Be Unveiled as Matchroom Fighter

BoxingScene understands that James DeGale will be unveiled as a Matchroom fighter at a press conference in London tomorrow. The 2008 Olympic Middleweight Gold Medalist served notice of the termination of his contract with former promoter Mick Hennessy on Friday night and is now being lined up for a slot on the undercard of the IBF and WBA world title rematch between domestic rivals Carl Froch and George Groves, which takes place at London's Wembley Stadium on May 31st. It's weird to see Groves and DeGale falling out with promoter after promoter, hope it won't impinge on their inevitable rematch. Also interested to see how Matchroom will attempt to market DeGale, they normally make their money from the good ol'-fashioned, true-blue Englishman types, whereas DeGale would be best marketed as a villain.

        Least surprising news ever?

The only question is whether DeGale will get his shot at the winner before or after his shot at Bika.

Degale shud have joined matchroom when he left frank warren. Mick hennesey is useless making degale fight in places like bristol and kent wtf. Absolute joke. Hes watched a guy who he believes he is better than and probably beat in groves earn worldwide status, fight for a world title and huge pay days. Now he shud fight bika take the wbc belt off him then unify with the winner or froch vs groves.

It'll be interesting to see whether Hearn risks him against Gonzales or Bika on the Froch-Groves undercard, or holds him back to fight the CF-GG winner in November (assuming he's legally cleared to fight).

He won't be fighting Bika at all I don't think. Because DeGale will most definitely feature on the Wembley Card for Froch v Groves II, that's only just over a month an a half away. Bika would want crazy money for that, plus Hearn will want an opponent DeGale can look good against, not a tough vet like Bika.

Then the plan will be DeGale to fight the winner of Froch v Groves in November.

No room for Bika. He'll drop that route now he's got a direct shot at a huge payday, in a huge British fight, for two belts.

Degale needs to get his hands on a world title match and i honestly believe being a world champion is the least he can do. He has tremendous talent and i really hope to see him train under Roach, Pedro Diaz or some elite States side trainer.

Wow, had no idea this was going to happen.

                    Hennesey's almost done then.
