THat has become a minor issue in light of this email.

It isn't that HBO did what they felt was best from a business perspective, its that they haven't said anything and let Kathy DUva tell a story they, based on what we read, knew was false. They also tried to "lather up the base" (which are the fans who don't like haymon/floyd) by acting like al haymon made this debacle happen. He didn't.

Herschman's being cheap prevented us from seeing this fight. He is trying to cover up for a mistake he made long before Haymon got involved-not signing these guys to a deal last year and foolishly agreeing to give adonis and kovalev another easy setup fight to "build" to a big event.

He's incompetent and a liar and is making HBO a minor outfit. Fire him now!!!

BoxingScene.com has obtained numerous emails that were exchanged between HBO and Yvon Michel, promoter of WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson.

The network has claimed that a deal was reached with Michel, and approved by Stevenson (23-0-1, 20KOs), to face Andrzej Fonfara (25-2, 15KOs) on May 24th - and then have a unification with WBO champion Sergey Kovalev in the fall.

HBO claims that Michel went back on their agreement and demanded a 40% increase on the license fee. Michel's increase demand was due to Showtime's very lucrative offer to bring Stevenson to their network.

Am I right in thinking the article suggests Haymons influence is not an issue cos Stevensons Haymon signing came after the initial GYM change of heart...just to point out that in early articles about the Stevenson - Haymon signing there was clear mention that Stevenson had links to (someone..I'll have to check who in) the Haymon camp dating well back into last year...it's clear the signing couldn't have come without significant negotiations in advance and all but the braindead should understand that the planning for the SHO takeover of LHW has been prolonged and that they have pulled off a significant coup (**** I proposed this exact scenario back when GBP signed Shumenov - HBO must be blinkered if they couldn't see what was likely to happen).

After having read the article it certainly does seem as though HBO made a mess of things and the prior, common consensus that Stevenson ducked Kovalev seems to hold less weight. I'll hold my hands up and say I was one of the first to jump on the band-wagon with publically blasting Stevenson and whilst the the credibility of this article could be questionable, it certainly wouldn't surprise me if the reason for "the" fight not happening was actually down to HBO.

The reason why it's so frustrating is because this marks the epitome of this "cold war" between the networks. This fight quickly became one of the biggest fights that could possibly be made; the trash talk between the two started heating up and everyone was growing in confidence it was next on the agenda then all of a sudden, no....

Not only do we have these issues with promoters egos and valuations getting in the way of the best fights being made, but we also have the two biggest financial parties involved with boxing at an ABSOLUTE stand off. It's gradually been getting worse, and we're now at the stage where the second people mention two big names that would make for a fantastic fight, if said two names don't "belong" to the same network, the fight simply will not happen....

The only possible (and plausible) way I see this "cold war" coming to an end would be to give both broadcasters a major kick in the balls by launching a large online campaign to "illegally" stream all fights across the internet. As fans of boxing, the requirement to spectate upon the sport is mandatory, regardless of whether or not the fight we want to see are being made. Because of this, we're basically being forced into funding this "cold war;" subsequently preventing the biggest fights from being made....

Showtime/Haymon are giving safe havens to ducks. Quilin is safe as well. There's the biggest duck in Floyd whose latest quack is Arum.

If they are truly sincere in giving fighters the best deal, why stop with Stevenson? They have about 90 fighters in their stable, but where tf are they? Why aren't they fighting? Where is Guerrero, Berto, Ortiz, Khan and Matthysse are now fighting once a year. They wanted Porter for Thurman, but they can only offer undercard money.

Showtime will disintegrate eventually.
