  • Comments Thread For: Stevenson, HBO Emails Contradict Statements on Deal

BoxingScene.com has obtained numerous emails that were exchanged between HBO and Yvon Michel, promoter of WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson.

The network has claimed that a deal was reached with Michel, and approved by Stevenson (23-0-1, 20KOs), to face Andrzej Fonfara (25-2, 15KOs) on May 24th - and then have a unification with WBO champion Sergey Kovalev in the fall.

HBO claims that Michel went back on their agreement and demanded a 40% increase on the license fee. Michel's increase demand was due to Showtime's very lucrative offer to bring Stevenson to their network.

exactly. lot of people on NSB blaming Haymon, blaming yvon and taking Kathy and HBO's side without having any real proof of what went down.

AFter reading this its clear HBO simply ****ed up and now the are trying to win the PR war.

I still don't think Stevenson wants to fight Kovalev, but he didn't do anything wrong here.

          Your joking aside ......

But that seems to be the formula for some guys here at NSB. Where facts seem to constantly take a backseat to self-delusional ingratiating rants.

The move was obviously financially motivated (as these things usually are). Whether he wants to fight Kovalev, I don't know but it sure looks like they were negotiating pretty hard. And it's pretty clear that his reasons for leaving HBO had nothing to do with that.

Exactly-Herschman even got Kathy Duva to do interviews where she sold this line of bull****.

HBO did wht was best for them and Stevenson did same.
