They get leeway though since Fonfara will be paid less Paulie or Maidana (1M and 800k)

It seems that if certain people like a fighter he gets more slack and more chances to gradually grow into a star. If they don't like a fighter or he beat one of their favorites then they are super critical of him and unless he is perfect in all areas he will get **** on.
But as usual you look at this with 1 eye open. This is Kovalev's first HBO headliner, just 6 months after first appearing on HBO overall. Ward is #2 P4P and an american appearing on cable for 5 years now. You're comparing apples and oranges. Wards ratings suck, Floyd did 2.2 mil PPVs and 15K attendance and Ward's 1.2 on regular HBO is good? HAHA! See how moronic that sounds?

IMO its similair to Bob giving Tim over 1 mil for the Casamayor fight. That was way too much but long term it was worth it.
Its almost as if we have to start looking at boxing deals like NFL or NBA deals.

If that had happened to Ward you know damn well that we'd never hear the end of it...people would be saying that his arrow is trending down and that Stevenson was responsible for the better ratings last time blah blah blah.

The point... the over all straight to the line point, how are you going to pay Andre Ward over 2 million dollars.... and then multiple fighters beat his ratings... one fighter even being paid about 1/5th of Ward for more ratings?
Why is Kovalev 1 million good? Because the entire card cost less than what Ward got paid, maybe even less than half
