For starters: I am not one of those fans who believe that GGG is a destructive force who everyone is scared to death of. I can't even say I'm really a fan of his, but I think he has great potential. Arguably, his resume is shit at the moment for the most part.
However, you can't deny that his options aren't good. Sturm, from what I understand, practically paid the WBA not to fight him (not clear on the details on what exactly happened there). Quillin admitted he doesn't want to fight the best and Martinez opted to fight Cotto, who's a relatively small junior middleweight. Now that's a cherry pick if you ask me.
The same people who criticize GGG for not fighting Lara are the same people who'd claim that Lara wouldn't be a good win because he's a blown up Junior Middleweight fighting at Middleweight for the first time; the latter being what I would actually tend to agree with at this point. Lara should ease into middleweight.
GGG is now moving up in weight to fight Chavez Jr, who's a more dangerous opponent than he gets credit for considering that he'll likely outweigh GGG by nearly 20 pounds on fight night. As for him "ducking" Ward, GGG hasn't even had a fight at 168 yet so a fight with him wouldn't be wise.
Quillin's situation: He's protected as hell, not even debatable.
Stevenson's situation: He avoided a much anticipated Kovalev fight after a massive amount of shit talking going on between them for a potential fight with Hopkins. Is Hopkins a bigger name? Yes. But the fact remains the Kovalev fight was supposed to happen but he left HBO rather than fight him. That is the definition of a duck, regardless of the motives behind it.
So stop bringing up GGG every time Quillin or Stevenson get called out on ducking because the situations are not the same and you're only making yourself look ******. Thanks.
