Why do so many of you choose Kovalev over Stevenson?

I don't see many choosing one over the other. What I see is the outcry for the fight to actually happen to settle the score on who's better. Both are heavy hitters and it will make for a very Interesting match up.

Boone was robbed in the first fight against Kovalev. The Russian was nearly knocked out and in the last two round was in survival mode.

Out of Kovalev, GGG, Fury, and Wilder neither have faced a world class opponent because all will be systematically dismantled. The only one that has shown enough skilled is GGG but he is there to be hit.
The same Tavoris Cloud that had the snot boxed out of him by Campillo (who went on to be destroyed by Kovalev in his next fight) and BHop? The same Dawson who many were claiming was finished before he ever got in the ring with Stevenson?

Stevenson also beat Bellew I guess (who was beaten by Cleverly who Kovalev krushed in 3). Stevensons other opponent of 2013 Darnall Boone beat him once and Kovalev SDd Boone once and KO2d him in their second outing.

In short a detailed breakdown suggests their level of opposition is relatively equal - only Dawson really stands out as a top fighter, and there were big questionmarks over him following his drubbing at the hands of Ward (in fact there'd been plenty of doubts raised over his consistancy and mental fortitude even prior to that).

Who do I think would win - well it could go either way, certainly each has the power and ability to stop the other. I go with Kovalev however because I still view Stevenson as somewhat of a one trick pony (though he has shown increasing ability in his last coupla fights) - he's a Southpaw counterpuncher and a very good one, fast and strong. Kovalev has a much more varied offensiv arsenal IMO as well as the ability to string combinations together to ensure that more often than not something damaging lands when he lets his hands go.

Given how offensive minded he is, of course, there's always the possibility that Kovalev walks onto that Stevenson counter left, but it's not like it's some kinda secret, whreas Kovalevs combos can come from all angles up or down and always seem to hurt guys. I got Kovalev by mid-rounds TKO.

Because Bellew showed that Stevenson can get frustrated if he doesn't get his way.

Outside of Stevenson and Hopkins, there aren't many LHWs that could give Kovalev a tough fight. When Hopkins and Stevenson retire, Kovalev will dominate the division.

Stevenson gets Ike-slapped by Kov...if he ever stops dodging.

Everyone is in love with Kov's punching power. His power is elite for sure, but imagine for a moment that Kov was a welterweight or lighter and you will see that there are other skills that can nullify great power. You need a complete package. Light heavyweight division isn't really that impressive so its easy to side with Kov being so great. Kov's first lost will be to a boxer. It could be Stevenson or someone else down the line.
