  • Comments Thread For: Kovalev's Promoter May Sue Team Stevenson Over Deal

According to Main Events CEO Kathy Duva, she may very well pursue some legal satisfaction in the wake of Adonis Stevenson's recent decision to jump over to Showtime.

Duva had previously advised BoxingScene.com that she was confident that a deal was reached in January with Stevenson's promoter, Yvon Michel, to do a light heavyweight unification between Stevenson and Sergey Kovalev in the fall.

Can't Stevenson still fight him on HBO regardless of the contract situation? Kov was planning to fight in a few weeks in Russia and it wasn't going to be televised by HBO. Or let both networks pick it up. Fights shouldn't go unmade because of different networks.

No part of me believes Stevenson has ever been 'on board' with a deal agreeing to a Kovalev fight. I don't believe he has the stones for it.

They get the money from the network. ONly way there's enough money off of network is if Hyrunov picks it up.

They are competing, no way they broadcast it on both their airwaves

This reeks of desperation; Bob Arum might as well sue Floyd since they agreed to fight twice and it never happened.

She can`t sue because their was no contract signed.

I don't see how they can realistically sue unless there was a signed agreement and, in it, explicitly stated that if Stevenson signed with Haymon, it'd be a breach of contract. Technically, the fight can still happen. It'd just have to happen at Showtime, unless HBO will again be willing to work with Al Haymon.

Sounds like a reach to me.
