Comments Thread For: Calzaghe Shakes Head, Warns Cleverly To Drop Back

Trainer Enzo Calzaghe has advised former WBO light heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly to stay away from the cruiserweight division. Following his August 2013 TKO defeat to Sergey Kovalev, Cleverly announced that he was moving up by 25-pounds to the 200-pound limit of cruiserweight.

With only a handful of knockouts on his record and very few scored even at 175, Calzaghe feels the Welsh boxer is going to be overwhelmed by fighters who are heavyweights and shave off the weight to make cruiser. Cleverly is going to make his cruiserweight debut on May 17.

It's going to be a hard lesson learned.

Not only that, Cleverly even admits that ideally there would be a division in etween LHW and Cruiserweight. Add to that he still seems very shaken mentally.

Listen to this interview, there doesn't seem to be any conviction or confidence in him at all.

He fled the 175 division after getting pummeled by a hard-hitting Russian, and in the CW division, there's another up & coming hard-hitting Russian...

Edit - he's actually 13(13KOs)-0 now, he just fought yesterday. Here's the KO...

The old cruiserweight limit of 190lbs would have suited him and Bellew a lot better.
25lbs is a BIG leap in weight.

Calzaghe is a legend. Retired undefeated and beat B-Hop in his prime as we see B-Hop was still great after the fight with Joe.

And what puts Calzaghe above guys like Sven..is that he actually fought outside of his country...did you read that Mayweather..Ward...

Massive! I just don't see what he thinks he's going to achieve at CW. He's not thinking straight. The guy had no power at 175, and now he's going to be facing BIG, strong, bulky guys who can easily bully him.

This is actually Enzo (Joe's father) who made these comments about Cleverly.
