From day one of hearing the news that Cleverly was moving up, I also wondered this...
After hearing his reaction in the wake of the Kovalev loss, like how there where talks of him losing heart and maybe retiring, I think maybe mentally he is at a bit of a loss as to finding an answer for what to do next. His career and confidence have took a huge blow and in this hope of finding an answer he decided for some reason that to move up is his best shot.
It's the only thing I could think of.
