Comments Thread For: Chavez Would Be Ready For Golovkin on 7/19, Not 7/12

Former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is very close to an agreement to face WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin on a date in July. Although July 12th has been mentioned as the working date for the Forum in Inglewood, the Mexican star reveals that he needs an additional week. He doesn't expect any problems with having the date pushed back by seven days, to July 19th. Chavez is still dealing with a hand and foot injury, both of which were suffered a few weeks ago when he decisioned Bryan Vera.

The fight proposal is for 3 1/2 months from now, how does he know he will only need one additional week of training? Regardless, props to Chavez for stepping up to the plate, even though he has more to lose than gain in this fight. If he wins the excuse will be GGG was too small and if he loses it'd be the opposite saying Chavez for whooped by a smaller man. Can't wait for this fight though! Cotto-martinez and this are by far the best fights scheduled.

Foot injury? Aw com'on dude, did Vera step on the baby's toe? Tell daddy to kiss it and it'll feel better. Take your diuretics and go to bed, kid.

More of a issue for Bob Arum since he's arranging the fight location at the Forum. So he might have to re-negotiate the location.

Although negotiations are ongoing for a 168-pound bout between Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and WBA middleweight titleholder Gennady Golovkin, the planned date of the fight has been shifted from July 12 to July 19 to avoid conflict with the June 12-July 13 FIFA World Cup of Soccer, Top Rank Promotions CEO Bob Arum informed Ring TV.com on Thursday.
whatever, I just want the fight to happen

Who cares? Easy to talk s-- about Chavez Jr but at least he's taking the fight. He's fought Martinez and Golovkin? I wish every fighter would be more like him in this sense. I think Golovkin destroys him btw.

"Stepping up to the plate"?? Man, he's the much BIGGER fighter. It's Golovkin that's 'STEPPING UP' amigo! He's not no baby, forget that "little amateur experience' excuse, he had some FIFTY pro fights already!! What we seen is practically what we'll get, not much more.

JR's got more important things than fight ggg on 7/12 fellas. Push it back a week, make the little man wait. If this was Bhop you'd call him a master of psychology
