Is Marcos Maidana's defense underrated?

Maidana moves his head very well considering he's a brawler. I've never seen him severely lumped up after a fight. But his opponents look like they've been clobbered. His defensive skills are crude but effective nonetheless -- if a punch misses that means his defense is effective! You don't have to be Floyd Mayweather to be a good boxer.

I agree with what Mayweather said,

"Maidana dishes out a lot of punishment, but doesn't take a lot of punishment."

Maidana is no dummy... he takes boxing very seriously. Along with head movement, El Chino never gets unreasonably fat in between fights, unlike Adrien Broner and Brandon Rios. Marcos is a serious boxer. Respect!

Another reason why I laugh at people who think Floyd stops him. His only chance would be accumulation of damage, and that clearly isn't ging to happen.
It could also be stopped because Maidana's getting lit up, which certainly is possible.

Ironically it has dramatically improved under Garcia, and his use of the jab also improved. You'd think since Garcia's stable is so offensive minded and nobody there has any defense, that only Maidana's offense would improve, but then his defense also got better. But when he was fighting Ortiz, Khan, Morales, Corley his defense was not as good.

No his defense isn't particularly good, but I admit it has improved dramatically.

          Not 1 bit.

Soto karass and especially Josesito landed easily on him, Corley too, and morales and the list goes on

That's not true. They landed at times of course, because Maidana is always open. When he doesn't want to be hit, he doesn't really ever get hit flush.
