that's bad refereeing. most finishes in MMA don't look like that.

Um, you must miss ALOT of mma then. Because Shogun just took 5 hammer fists to the back of the head. The ref did not dq Henderson. In fact the mma media and fans were fine with it and Dana White said Herb did a good job.

i don't watch nearly as much as i used to. i feel that boxing is much more compelling.

i trained in MMA gyms in new york for several years at college, and interviewed several mixed martial artists when i had media credentials. i wouldn't be talking about the sport if i weren't familiar with it.

              that stoppage is not typical.

I've said this from day one, it's still the fight game. All of the ancillary stuff that happens in boxing is bound to end up happening in MMA, and that includes the physical toll on the fighters. To extend on that - fighters going broke after retirement, etc. you know, all that heartbreaking stuff

Anyone who will sit here and deny that taking hits to the head is less damage or more damaging than boxing are being perverse in their denial. Even if boxing didn't exist, those blows to the head in MMA would still be damaging. Fighters are fighters, i'm not as into MMA as boxing but all I care about is that teh fightes can shake hands at the end. This distinction that is made between fans is ridiculous - boxers and mma fighters prob have more in common with each other than they do with their fans.

Again, I don't think the design of this particular study is that great - there is no link to the study itself so we pick it apart and see how it could have been done better. That is what science is about. I don't want some clown politician to come in trying to ban either or both sports. We are in the same boat now - when they made a ruling in NV over PED's for example, that effects boxing as well. So, I rather see studies like this so we can say we've done all we can to keep the sport safe while maintaining its integrity

                  Once again,,,,

What champs in UFC dont defend vs the top guys,, The girls division is kinda a joke, but all the other champs fight top guys in their division

Tell me again what boxing champs in 2014 are fighting the top guy in 2014

BOXING CANT MAKE CHAMPS FIGHT GUYS IN THEIR OWN DIVISION,,, How is there matchmaking better than UFC

Please name the big fights we are getting in 2014 from champs defending belts vs true #1 contenders..

Boxing is a sport with several promotion companies (Golden Boy, Top Rank, etc), UFC is a company. How many times have mixed martial artists from different companies fought each other? In boxing it happens quite often.
Name that superfeather weight fight,, when did garcia and Uchiyama get signed, when are they fighting, i would love to know the date... Oh i know, they are going to take tuneups to build the fight, just like kovolev-adonis.. LOL

MMA has a better business model than boxing,,, But all the other promotions are basically minor leagues of MMA,, UFC is clearly the cream of the crop by a million miles, and anyone in their top 10 in a division would rule in other promotions.. No one wants to see ben askren vs Hendricks.. If your really good you will eventually find your way to UFC unless you punk out like fedor did

Both sports are dangerous,, lets just leave it at that..

Its like saying who has better athletes basketball or soccer... Its a pointless debate
