by fighting smith gbp is basically putting lara to sleep
Unless Lara who knows he needs a good performance can come up with one, and look impressive.

martinez won't face golovkin. the ol' man was even contemplating retirement just to duck him. cotto has more balls to face golovkin. kinda hoping cotto steals the show from martinez. once golovkin UD's chavez jr., it's either cotto or maybe even canelo at 160.

        Why Jr. but not Ward?

        1) TR's Arum proposed an offer (deal) to Golovkin and Chavez Jr. -- while Ward called GGG, but could not come with an actual proposition for a fight.
        2) Chavez Jr. is a solid Mexican brawler with little experience at 168, while Ward is an "old school" exquisite U.S. product (mixing skilled boxing, "rough house", wrestling, etc)...
        3) a Chavez Jr. fight sells better, provides a bigger purse.

(I would have prefered a Ward vs Golovkin fight, though).

Anyone and i mean including your precious GGG would take a Cotto fight.

Golovkin is fighting a glorified bum at 168 when he could have become the lineal champ at 168 against Ward. Reason = money.
I don't like Ward, but I'm not biased...

But, beyond any call in the media, please show me a single source / link related to an actual deal proposition produced by Ward with respect to a Golovkin fight (aimed to happen now or in the near future)...

Eventually, exactly who Ward will fight next and how?

I can imagine Martinez retiring after the Cotto bout, win or lose. I know he has said he is already thinking of it, but think about it yourself if he wins big against Miguel he could easily say 'thank you and good night' whilst walking away on a good show. If he was to lose he could easily say 'my body is shot, thank you and good bye' whilst walking away accepting his time has come....It makes sense for him to contemplate retiring in my opinion.

HOWEVER...With Golovkin talking about fighting the winner, it makes it a little bit more interesting. I still feel as though Martinez would rather walk away, win or lose vs Cotto, GGG waiting in the wings or not...But if he did, fans would forever claim he avoided Golovkin. If Cotto was to win, maybe he would consider it, seeing as he has proven he will fight anyone. If Cotto loses and Martinez walks away, GGG would be seen as targeting the loser, therefore putting him in a lose-lose situation with some people I guess.

Still, I'm rambling, but it does make this fight a little more interesting knowing that GGG wants whoever wins...

I answered your question. If boxing is about fighting the best all the time then Golovkin should be ready to face Ward.

But boxing is a business so Golovkin took Chavez which is a PPV fight and will pay him more money. The same way Martinez took Cotto which is a PPV fight and will pay him WAAAAAY more than Golovkin.

So Ward is allowed to clean out 168 and sit on his hands calling out people but GGG isnt allowed to clean out 160 before he moves up to 168?

GGG hasnt even fought a top guy at 160 which is pretty much Martinez, he needs to do that first before moving up.

By your theory GGG should be allowed to call out Mayweather and then you would say that Mayweather should fight the best of the best.

So JCC is definitely on in July, and then Triple G will "Good Boy" and retire Martinez?

                  Am I hearing this right???

Cue, fights and fighter of 2014.

                    GGG, please! LOL

If Cotto beats Martinez in June, the LAST thing he's thinking of, is giving GGG a fight. At this point, beating Martinez would skyrocket Cotto's career again...surely he wont blow that in a GGG fight.

If anything, Cotto will win the MW title, then probably go back down to 54 and try to get a rematch with Floyd, which I'm sure Showtime would appreciate.

After that, he can move back up to MW (if he doesn't relinquish the title by then), and pick & choose until he retires...he's earned it. Truthfully, IF Cotto beats Sergio, I believe he wont fight at MW, since the goal is "get his 4th world title" as a PR fighter.

If the belt is vacant, then GGG can fight somebody else for it, period. It sounds like GGG isn't trying to stay at 168 after the Chavez bout anyway, and I'm sure he's making 160 easily nowadays.

Only way this happens if if Martinez wins, GGG wins and the GGG/Chavez jr. fight does good/better than Martinez/Chavez Jr.

Think that's the only way....plus HBO would try to put it on PPV since both men would've been on PPV this year.... Goddamn....too many PPVs
