mayweather has a sponsorship with grant. he's a pure boxer with bad hands, and grants are great for his style. he'll be well suited to negotiate a deal where grant gloves are used by both parties. that's just how it works. crying will not help

if maidana is an outright better fighter than mayweather, he'll stop him in whatever glove is available
    .
And here it is folks. What I've been saying.

plenty of top fighters train with winning though, i hear they're very comfortable, so i think he simply made a switch. if he is forced to wear something it will probably be grant.

Virtually all fighters train with winning gloves as they offer the best protection against injuring the hand or wrist in training camp. They switch to the glove they prefer for the fight on the night of the fight. E.g. MP trains and spars with winning, but likes Reyes in fights. Floyd trains in winning and grants, but uses Grant's for fights (since Judah fight, where he had winning, and Oscar where he wore 10oz Reyes).

The same fighter wanted to use 8oz gloves in a 154 contest (in Nevada 154 is 10oz) with Miguel Cotto who is a puncher.

Sort of related, but to those in the thread that actually box i personally like Rival, their gloves are great. Though i haven't had the chance to use Grant's or winning as they are too expensive to buy and ship here, and no one in oz stocks them locally as far as i know.

Again no, because there's a commission to control it and dont allow it. Thats my point and neither should boxing. .

What makes using one glove brand unfair? If the two fighters agree to it, really what's the issue? It's not like one fighter's gloves will weigh more or less than the other's.
Why force someone to use another glove if you didnt perceive an advantage? Just because a fighter agrees to it, doesnt make it fair. Same as you weight example boxers should not be allowed to dictate that either

Like I said, to pull rank. I can't think of any other reason why other fighters have done it previously.
What does to pull rank mean?

if guys want leverage to get their gloves used in a mayweather fight, they should beat him. they can get a sponsorship with their own gloves, and wear reyes or MX everlast in vegas. that's how this game works. it's not perfect, but that's how it works.
His sponsorship with Grant applies to Maidana too? That ridiculous

If the commission approves of the equipment, then you should be able to choose whatever you want. Should Lebron james tell Kevin Durant what sneakers to wear, or should pitchers tell batters what bat they could use in baseball?
Of course not, but you're talking about real sports there my friend.
Keep in mind this is boxing. Today's pro boxing is like WWE wrestling. Its like Spain going into the next soccer world cup and choosing not to play against Brazil and saying "nope, we're the champs, we chose who we play against", and STILL get the FIFA world cup.

Doesn't matter, IMO. Maidana is a puncher no matter what. Sledgehammers in both hands.
Have you ever actually used the Grants or are you just basing your opinion on Mayweather bias? There will obviously be a contractual issue on whether to use 8oz - 10oz gloves but I've never heard of him dictating the brand, that's just silly!

From what I've heard of the Grants gloves there a middle of the road glove in terms of power to protection ratio, the Everlast "punchers" glove as you say, is comparable to the Grant glove with maybe a slightly less padded, but they're certainly no Reyes gloves!

applies to maidana? you'll have to further qualify what you're saying, because i don't follow.

surely you can't discount the notion that both fighters wearing grant is in grant's interest.

There was a guy I knew in the gym a few years back who was national champion and was in the high performance team for Ireland, he used a 14oz Winning for sparring cost like €600 or something ridiculous, I tried them on, hugely padded, the felt like 16oz!

Clearly great for brittle handed guys but I dunno if anyone would like to use them for actual fights!
