kovalev? really?
even if he did step up why the hell would he fight kovalev? im not sure i ever seen a guy get elevated this way for doing jack ****.
but ot answer your question its because kovalev hasnt earned a shot at ward, sillakh, cleverly and campillo doesnt get you the second best p4p fighter on the planet. he hasnt even earned stevenson, you bringing up his name is crazy enough, now ward? who not only is more accomplished than stevenson but isnt even a light heavyweight!?
here is a question, how come ray robinson never fought kovalev? he was scared thats why. forget weight classes, accomplishments, time and anything that matters. lets just pretend kovalev deserves a shot at everyone because he beat the supreme nathan mother****ing cleverly.
i will tell you who is scared, kovalev is scared. duva knows something about him. maybe his chin is soft (he has been on the canvas several times as both an amateur and a pro), maybe he doesnt go rounds well, idk. but what i do know is that if they had real confidence in him they would go out there and earn these big fights and not just call for them.
they know kovalev isnt all that and if he tries to fight top competition he will get exposed sooner rather than later. so they are looking to jump straight to a pay day, best case scenario he lands a lucky shot, worst case scenario he gets paid. but they dont want to earn it because they dont believe ha can.
the idea that fighting hopkins, a living legend. is ducking a guy whos best wins are cleverly, campillo and sillakh (i keep writing it so hopefully you will get some ****ing perspective) is absurd. whats sad is people are drinking the kool aid. now you are asking why ward doesnt move up to fight this dude? boxing fans are getting dumber by the minute.
...... Yet beating Denis Grachev deserves a shot at the P4P #2, right?
My god you seriously have some issues. All of your posts are filled with HATE
This is one of the worst posts I've ever read here.... And it's because you're DEAD serious in everything you just said. LmaoComment

ward doesn't have this concrete measure of control over his career that you all seem to think he's got.
over the last several years he's had several injuries, kelly pavlik losing his mind, and joe goosen keeping him in a long term contract that he's been trying to fight.
of course i fully expect you all to conveniently forget these things and call andre ward, the planet's best supermiddleweight and the conqueror of europeans, a coward. i also expect you to blame him exclusively for any inactivity.
Ward and his team sat down, read and signed the contract extension, then sued him saying they got him in an illegal contract. I mean, this is the third time he's suing Goosen... I don't know what's going to be different.
Goosen wanted to get him back in March/April after the E-Rod fight
But you can't do anything if you're tied in a legal battleComment

it's definitely a shame to see a guy with so much talent, who has worked so hard, get such a bad run of luck.
and to think, he beat carl froch with a bum right shoulder and two broken bones in his left hand.
andre ward is like jesus. he suffers for you and me.Comment

"If Bernard wants to fight Sergey, Sergey is there," Duva said. "This is something he would love to do."
Said Kovalev's manager, Egis Klimas, "If we have the opportunity to fight Bernard Hopkins, we want it. That's what Sergey was aiming for, that's what he wants right now."
On the other side:
Schaefer told SI.com that the decision to fight Kovalev was "up to Bernard," but added that he didn't believe it would have much appeal to Showtime.“For me, it’s a no-brainer,” the 48-year-old Hopkins said. “Kovalev can go get Cleverly, I can probably get Adonis and we go head-to-head and give the fans the old light heavyweight battles they had in the old light heavyweight battles they had in the late '70 and '80s"Comment

It doesn't take a genius to see who wanted the fight.
