If a fighter doesn't fight the toughest possible opponent available regardless of circumstance some people call it a cherry pick. These people are the ones that don't understand that boxing is a business.
JMM vs. Alvarado is not a cherry pick!

when a fighter say he doesnt want to be a stepping stone vs provo then the next day signed a contract to fight the guy who provo beat
its a duck hiding on a rock i sayComment

Wouldn't call it a cherry pick. But he did duck Provo clear as day. And he should easily beat mike with his sloppy ass southpawComment

JMM ducked Provo and cherry picked Alvarado. No other way around.
Even if he might be facing Pac next doesn't change anything. Keep in mind that JMM has said over and over that he's not fighting Pac anymore because he wants to preserve his KO win as the last event of their rivalry.Comment

You are an idiotRight. It is understandable that Marquez wants a less dangerous fight at his 40 years of age BEFORE heading into a tougher fight for a 5th title. ALSO, the winner of this fight becmes the MANDATORY CHALLENGER for the winner of Pacquiao-Bradley SO again it makes sense that Marquez picked the lesser opponent.
And really lesser opponent here doesn't mean much, Alvarado is a tough SOB. Provodnikov is more of a monster though and it is not the type of physically demanding fight you want to take before one of the biggest fights of your career.
But it is a CHERRY pick because well he is picking the loser of the two options he had... Provodnikov is the champ and gave Alvarado a beating. HOWEVER, it is an understandable choice considering the circumstances.Comment

I agree that JMM *should* win, and JMM 5 years ago *should* easily win, but I think this fight may be a lot closer than people give it credit for as long as Provo didn't beat the heart out of Alvarado. I think JMM's savage KO of Pac has kind of inflated his stock compared to what it's actually worth in the last couple of years, and I think that Alvarado has more tools than a Rios or even a Provo.
Alvarado's 2 losses were against pressure fighters who threw bricks. One of which was avenged, and neither of which was lopsided. JMM isn't either of those guys, and while JMMs technical and counter-punching skills should get the job done, I dunno, it might be close...
I think this will actually be an interesting fight.Comment
