Comments Thread For: Solis Had Big Setback as He Entered Thompson Fight

Heavyweight Odlanier Solis took a major blow prior to Saturday's fight with Tony Thompson, when trainer Pedro Diaz and promoter Ahmet Oner had a major disagreement which led to Diaz not traveling over to Turkey for the fight. Diaz trained Solis for 95% of the camp, before last minute changes had to be made for the Olympic gold medal winner's corner. And Solis suffered a major setback in losing a twelve round decision.

So Ahmed Oner was probably to blame. Maybe Solis would have done enough to win if he had Diaz in his corner.

Odlanier needs to break away and find a better promoter.

I think Oner tried to get between Gamboa and Salas when they were together too. Not 100% sure tho.

Would Diaz have made the difference in yesterday's fight? Maybe. But shame on Solis for not coming into the fight in better shape and defeating a much older, slower man. Don't look for excuses, Odlanier; look in the mirror....

It's always a money thing, especially when it comes to guys like Oner. This is complete speculation, but I wouldn't doubt if Oner tried to stiff Pedro and that was the cause of the static.

Should've rang the bell after Solis landed a significant blow

Pay the talent Oner..i'm pretty sure Pedro wouldn't just leave his fighter like that unless it was some serious bullshhh going on..the whole "Solis has a family to feed" line reaks of some money getting messed up or coming up short and the promoter bending the fighter to take less money than had been agreed on before. Boxing is sickening these days..the craft and sport revolve around the business instead of the other way around as it should be.

thats what I was going to say. Diaz is a great trainer who couldve made a difference but there is still no excuse for being fat. That was by far the biggest problem. Im sick of seeing so many great talents wasted
