Manny 's unconventional style is what gives him his advantages. If he was wasn't unorthodox, the dude would have been a bum. Floyd would do poorly being unorthodox, because his IQ is his greatest asset, being a student of the game; he can read your body language and knows where the punches are coming from.

Freddy would have been a bad fit for Floyd, because Freddie really wasn't a well schooled fighter himself especially when it comes to defense. Sr would have been a bad fit for Pac (look at Hatton). In the earlier years and weights, Floyd's offense was way more impressive than Pac, better selection of punches, sets up better with jabs, delivers better with better balance, etc. Floyd chooses to fight differently at these higher weights 1. because of hand problems and 2. He's fighting bigger guys who are much harder to hurt, so the smartest thing to do is just try to win.
