This photo exemplifies what is "out on your feet"

regardless of what i think about that fight and what happend in it, when corrales got up after the 2nd KD, he went right after castillo. when castillo was trapped on the ropes, corrales unloaded on him and castillo's head was wobbling around like a rag doll.

castillo has a very strong chin and a huge heart, but when a tough guy like that is doing the "rag doll" effect, that's a bad sign.

the ref's stoppage was correct, IMO.

Thank you. That's a very classy post on your part. I'm a die-hard Corrales fan, and that's my favorite moment in boxing history. I thought my boy Chico was done in, and he made arguably the most dramatic comeback ever. Castillo is a true warrior, and has never hit the deck. I don't know that he would've, but the ropes were the only thing holding him up. He was incapable of defending himself, and could've suffered serious, permanent damage. He showed what a warrior he was in the rematch, and I hope he makes weight this go-round, so that they can settle the score, once and for all. As a Corrales fan, I try to be very optimistic, but if he doesn't change up his strategy, I don't like his chances against Castillo. Jose Luis is a class act (with the exception of the weigh-in), and I'm very glad they stepped in before he was seriously injured. He still has gas left in his tank, and hope the previously mentioned bouts with Cotto and Hatton take place. I would pick Castillo to win both those fights, and both have the possiblity of being instant classics. In closing, the stoppage was necessary, and well-timed.

Unified Rules = No Standing 8 count.

It doesn't get much simpler than that.
Thank you for informing him that the standing 8 only applies to the amateurs. I heard Al Bernstein say he was for the standing 8 count, and I was shocked. Why not just ban KO's... a standing 8 count is a horrible idea, IMO, and it is unfair to stop a fighter when he's in the zone.

It was much like the Vargas-Oscar stoppage-the correct one. We gotta remember that these guys are human and remain on the side of stopping fights too early and not too late. I'm not talking about this particular topic but doesn't it seem fans have already forgotten the Leavander Johnson incident which was only 5 months ago?

It was a fine stoppage, and one that may have saved Castillo some years on the back of his career.

Now if Richard Steele were reffing that fight he would have stopped it when Corrales landed the first right hand in that combination.

I believe that it was a good call. Corrales did a smart thing by spitting out his mouth piece when Castillo knock him down. He was able to regain his focus and husben his breath for another assualt.

You make a very good point, and your humanitarianism is admirable. I think casual fans have forgotten about Leavander, but true boxing fans will never forget. He was a true warrior, and will forever be missed. RIP, Leavander.

wrong, if steele would have been ref he would have stopped it after the second time Corrales grabbed the mouthpiece and threw it on the floor.

weeks did stop the fight at the exact correct moment.who knows what damamge castillo would have recieved from one more shot to the head.
