Comments Thread For: Goossen: Martirosyan Must Win Impressively Friday Night

Promoter Dan Goossen pounced on the opportunity to work with junior middleweight contender Vanes Martirosyan once Martirosyan’s partnership with Top Rank Inc. had run its course following his last fight.

Goossen emphasized, though, that it is extremely important for Martirosyan to produce a dominant win in his televised fight Friday night.

Martirosyan (33-1-1, 21 KOs) will meet Mexico’s Mario Alberto Lozano (28-4, 22 KOs) in an ESPN2 “Friday Night Fights” main event from Morongo Casino Resort Spa in Cabazon, Calif. The 10-round, 154-pound bout will be Martirosyan’s first fight since the 2004 American Olympian suffered his first professional defeat – a split-decision to undefeated Demetrius Andrade (20-0, 13 KOs) in their 12-rounder for the then-vacant WBO junior middleweight title Nov. 9 in Corpus Christi, Texas. Vanes is what he is.
If he didn't improve his offense under Roach I doubt Goossen will improve him much.

Vanes said that he never really 'trained' with Freddy and always got pawned off to an assistant so maybe he never got the coaching he needed, but who knows. A loss won't kill his career but right now my perception of Vanes is just an Olympic boxer with a padded record and zero hunger. He needs to prove he's the real thing and not a poser.

Wouldn't doubt it. Freddie's gym got so big that I don't think most the guys that joined him got the time they wanted with him.

Didn't Khan complain about that too? I think Marvin Zamudio trains Provo more than Freddie

Freddie's stable was/is too big, like Haymon now, and here is the result. A loss and the complaining starts, a justified complaint regardless of Vanes skill level. How are you going to pay attention to everybody? Freddy isn't able, this isn't the first complaint, but meat market mentality can blind a person. Overload your plate and only use the top.
