Agreed. I like Golovkin and many fans/experts in boxing are high on him. He looks like a skilled destroyer. But guess what, many top fighters look like that when fighting a particular level of competition.

It's not until they step up vs other top fighters with experience under the big lights and big fights that we find out who they REALLY are.

Martinez has been there with the guys he's fought at their respective points in their careers. Golovkin hasn't just yet. But he looks good so far vs his competition.

He doesn't get credit for hypothetical wins. His resume still is what it is and he hasn't proved **** yet.

Martinez has been there with the guys he's fought at their respective points in their careers. Golovkin hasn't just yet. But he looks good so far vs his competition.

No one can step up until they do, and it wasn't for a lack of trying that GGG hasn't done it yet. He basically has nowhere to "step up" to. The only two opponents at 160 that could be considered a "step up", Sergio and Quillin, want nothing to do with him.

And Martinez was one of the most deserving champs in the world after he beat Pavlik and Williams, but he has overstayed his welcome as MW king imo. His reign has been very underwhelming after a great start.

I give him a pass on fighting Cotto since he is coming off a long layoff, but after that he needs to face GGG or Quillin next. If he doesn't, then he is basically holding the lineal title hostage.
