I think we notice the differences in accent a lot easier than we can pick out our own.

I'd never say an Australian sounded like a British person, but when I've met Americans they say we sound the same

I reckon a Jamaican/ Canadian would have a much stronger accent than Lennox does.

It's not that Canada didn't embrace him, there were just more opportunities in Britain with regards to boxing.

Boxing in Canada died in the 60s right after Ali beat Chuvalo at Maple Leaf Gardens in 1966.

At his peak, Lewis would have contended with other major sports attractions like hockey, baseball, football and basketball. In the 90s, more and more "polite" Canadians thought that boxing was too barbaric and inhumane, which is ironic, especially for a drop-your-gloves, hockey loving nation like Canada.

Boxing does not, and still doesn't, fill arenas in Canada and his Canadian fans wouldn't have followed him to Las Vegas on fight night, ala Ricky Hatton. Britain made financial and social sense for Lewis. He is still remembered today because of the choice he made to fight for GB.

I've heard that the accent thing is important in the UK. Is it true you can tell where someone's from, what their socioeconomic status is, and even what school they attended by the accent?

That's probably true. I just think Lennox sounds like a mix of a lot of places. Definitely not London, and definitely not Canadian. But mix the two, and that's probably a good shout.

          Yes, all true.

Not only that, we can hear in your accent what house you lived in on what street, and how old you were when the little ginger pubes started making their way onto your penis.

              Haha.

No, most brits will have a good understanding of the different accent. Personally, being from the north I can tell a lot about scouse accents - but I recognize Mancs, Brummies, lancashire etc accents quite easily.

I struggle to distinguish between southern accents - if they're not from London. For example, I wouldn't be able to know if you were from Essex, Devon or Cambridge - they all sound similar to me.

I wouldnt say its 'important'. There are definitely lots of different accents for such a small place though.

I grew up in Reading (half an hour outside London) and I could tell the difference between a Londoner and someone from Reading quite easily.

You can't be serious? There is absolutely no way Lennox Lewis sounds Canadian, our accent is very similar to an American.

He has a British/Caribbean-English hybrid accent. Nowhere near Canadian.
