The months before Tszyu fought Hatton he was on Australian TV saying he had two targets in mind Floyd and Hatton. He fought Hatton. I have no idea if Floyd vs Tszyu was ever negotiated or their camps spoke.

There were actually discussions between Hatton and Cotto's teams to make that fight in 2006. That came from Ricky himself.

Kosta had been stripped of all but 1 belt and he had to fight Sharmbra Mitchell again to keep it. Floyd offered Hatton and Cotto his first fight at 140 both declined. They also delcined later at 140 when Floyd beat Cotto's stablemate Henry Brussles and Hatton sat ringside for Mayweather vs Gatti with HBO Execs for a possible November PPV date with Floyd. After watching Floyd's performance Hatton's next fight was against the upset undercard winner Carlos Maussa(sp?)

Floyd and Tszyu were popular in those times. Floyd had called him out but Tszyu literally lost and retired in the same month Floyd beat Gatti in 2005.

Hatton's team was not willing to fight Floyd yet and they were not ready to come to the U.S.

Cotto was getting built up by Arum at the time, no way Arum would have put him in with Hatton or Floyd. Arum had Floyd and Cotto together until 2006 after Judah, yet he decided he wanted to make the fight after Floyd left TR.

Arum wasn't going to make Cotto/Mayweather at that time. Cotto was coming off the Corley fight, still pretty early in his career. If Floyd did want the fight its funny how his mind changed so fast.

Tszyu was done for years and Hatton's team was waiting for that fight. Then they wanted to build his name before the May fight. Really that fight ended up happening at a perfect time anyway.

Also this talk of everyone being shook at the Gatti performance is overblown. They all wanted to fight Gatti at the time knowing it was an easy title win.
