Yea, headbutts coming from the jab that was lighting your son up for 12 rounds.
No question. I just want to make it clear I was illustrating a point, not specifically commenting on Herrera's jabbing. A good, stiff jab can be a power shot unto itself. Some guys seem to think they're necessarily pitty-pat punches. Larry Holmes used to deliver pile-driver jabs. And it's not unheard of for someone to go down from a nice power-jab, as with Cotto-Clottey.

Reading the posts around here, it's evident that many (maybe even most) people on these forums, don't know how to score a fight. I certainly don't know as much about the sport as some of the guys around here (as yourself) but I at least understand the way fights are supposed to be scored. If we were talking about baseball, some of these cats would be awarding runs for balls hit really, really hard...right into a fielder's glove.

Sad that boxing is putting herrera under the rug and keeping hush
Notice how lots of fighters arent coming out sayin danny won.

Paulie and ruslan and rios are saying he lost flat out.

I've always seen Danny as fairly slow. His main attributes, in my opinion, are: timing (which allows him to compensate for his relative slowness); left hook power (not much explanation needed); and ring smarts (not demonstrated well in the Herrera fight, but evident in previous fights).

Rios's name should be tossed out off-hand. I don't think I need to explain why. Ruslan lost a fight to Herrera, so his opinion might be tinged. Paulie's opinion, however, is solid. He's an excellent commentator and obviously knows the sport. Beyond that, I don't think he has anything to gain by downplaying Garcia's win.

You are one of my favorite posters here without a doubt. You are one of the very few I can have a conversation about boxing and it not be a biased point of view.

The jab is the most important punch in boxing and we saw why. It's the same reason a lot of fans don't understand why Herrera was able to push Danny back, yet the big hitter Mathysse wasn't.

It's because that jab changes everything. He was just bouncing it off of Danny's nose at will, forcing him to become less aggressive and changing his game plan.

Also I have to say, his father was giving him horrible advice in the corner IMO. Telling him to bend his knees. I don't want to sound like I know everything about boxing, but that was a very simplistic view as to what was going on.

He was loading up on the left hook and not setting it up with anything. IMO I think he should have told Danny to jab more, and throw the right hand to the chest, following it up with lighter, faster combinations. Loading up made him miss and then not be able to recover from those shots. Jabbing, touching him and then giving Herrera a "change up" would have been more effective.

Danny isn't the same fighter going backwards, we saw that.

I really hate to sound ignorant but, I have to post this question. I recall during the days before the fight, I remember checking BoxRec.com and Mauricio Herrera was (obviously) inaccurately said to be 5'10" (since then, his info has been updated and now he is said to be 5'7.5") Could this possibly be one of the reasons Garcia was thrown off and looked totally puzzled throughout the entire fight (aside from Herrera's obviously awkward style)? Perhaps he trained for a much taller opponent, thus became unable to make the proper adjustments. I was wondering if that's why Angel Garcia kept telling his son to bend his knees. Forgive me if it's an invalid question to some but, I had to ask. Not an expert... just a fan.

Danny was not dominated, it was a close fight. A close fight that had a clear winner, which was herrera.

Now that danny's homecoming didnt turn out so well, he can turn his swag back on and go back to being a philly boy

I don't think calling it a robbery is overstated at all. I can't picture how the hell Garcia gets 6 rounds, let alone 7.

And for the last third of the fight Herrera was landing as many right hands and left hooks as he was jabs. He was catching Garcia during his flurries with power shots and jabs both.

str8 up robbery, no other way to put it. boxingscene poll had 85% of people saying herrera won with the rest voting garcia or draw. pisses me off to see a man get robbed of his dreams . for the love of god, how can those judges do that to him for goodness sakes.
