For most crimes (murder being a notable exception), the statute of limitations gives the authorities a certain amount of time to bring legal action. Molina had already been found guilty, for one. In addition, he was on the run. The statute of limitations did not apply to him. If someone commits a crime and they're convicted, they cannot simply flee, avoid apprehension, then claim the statute of limitations has elapsed.

Molina forgot what day of the week it was like Angulo did. He'll do time for sure. a boxer can get sent up for jay walking and get your name dragged in the dirt, but you punch women or terrorize families your still considered a cool dude.

Agreed. This guy worked really hard to get to this point (IBF Light Middleweight Champion) and, as someone else noted, he's been able to keep his nose clean for many years so it is kind of sad that something he did when he was so young came back to bite him in the ass, even after serving time. A lot of boxers nowadays act like fools with no apparent repercussions and this guy (who actually has seemingly been able to turn his life around) gets jailed just days prior to one of the biggest nights of his career. He definitely appeared to do good things with his "borrowed" time.

                This.

A statute of limitations is for when charges haven't been brought against someone. In this case, Molina had been charged with that misdemeanor and had a warrant out for his arrest.

Beyond that, the more serious charge was the failure to register as a sex offender charge.

And beyond that, he'd been deported from the US in 2006 and then had returned to the country, which is why he's in an immigration hold in Nevada in addition to his being held on these outstanding warrants, pending extradition.

13 year old girl? **** this guy, send him packing. Truth is he's always been horrible for the sport. ANy casual watches one of his "fights" and their thinking "screw boxing man, let me watch real wrestling in the UFC". Good riddance.

It could be attributed to a little thing we call corruption. The law finally caught up with him though.

There were a couple of long threads about this issue when Molina's story broke. We don't know exactly how old the girl was. According to the Wisconsin statute Molina was charged under, she would have been somewhere between exactly 13 and a day under 16. Molina was 18 at the time of the incident. I'm not sure we'll ever know for certain how old the girl was.
