PDL is almost 34 yrs old and after 51 pro fights he should retire. For many years he relied only on his power but in the last few years he improved a little being able to defeat Broner and J. Gonzales and having competitive fights with Gamboa & Mares. In this last fight against Lopez, PDL looked again as only relying on his power and he paid for it although I believe that the referee stopped the fight in a rush as he was attempting to favor his country man Lopez (this is the reason referees and judges should be neutral). Anyway, I think that neither Ponce nor Lopez has more to still be relevant at 126 or 130 pounds. I believe that their best days are far behind and continuing only would be detrimental and that is why I am glad Ponce is considering retirement.

Sad to see him go, but glad he's got the smarts to take a bow. It made me smile to read that Ponce has other things outside of boxing. Good luck to this warrior, wherever his road might lead him.
