Canelo had a lot to do with the sales against floyd, otherwise how do u explain the difference between that fight and ortiz or guerrero fight, and canelo doing 350 is good considering he is coming off a loss as is angulo, if floyd loses believe me his next fight wont sell as well especially if its also against a guy coming off a loss like angulo

this is bittersweet for boxing because on one hand, you have a succesful buyrate(so people are willing to pay to watch, but on the other, its not a championship fight & the main attraction star couldnt make weight and its on ppv....

Floyd Fought Mosley on a Mexican holiday, and that fight did 1.4 million PPV buys. And Mosley is far from a Mexican.

he had Mexicans on that undercard to help,,,aside from the date which he always picks, why not February? do it on black history month,no,he chooses a date where he knows is popular and he puts Mexicans on his undercard, ponce de leon and canelo were on it,canelo was already known, people were starting to notice him

I just googled saul alvarez, so the buyrate has increased to 350,006 now.

no he did not, he did 875 according to DanRafael that is still a good #

                1) Mayweather has been established for 17 years
                2) Mayweather is undefeated
                3) Mayweather plays the villain that people want to see lose
                4) Mayweather has been a good marketer for himself
                5) Mayweather fights are bigger experiences than just the fight itself
                6) Mayweather is more known
                7) Mayweather has more money and promotion put behind his big fights
                8) Mayweather has a business plan of fighting on two dates in the year that people anticipate and that Mexican boxing fans (which is a major market) tune into.

                Canelo is a "rising" star.

                1) Canelo has been fighting since early-mid teens and has over 40 fights, yes***8230;but that doesn't mean he's been the spotlight for all of those years.
                2) He had his first PPV coming off a disappointing loss (I bet those numbers would be different had he KO'd Floyd)
                3) Mayweather's first PPV wasn't 2 million, so why should Canelo's?

                Oscar DeLaHoya's first PPV buys:

                1. Rafael Ruelas (5/95) 330,000 buys = $9.9 million
                2. Genaro Hernandez (9/95) 220,000 buys = $6.6 million
                3. Miguel Angel Gonzalez (1/97) 345,000 buys = $12.1 million

                Why should Canelo's be 800k-1.2million?
                4) Canelo's stock has simply dropped because he lost to Mayweather. As he keeps winning and has some more big fights that are entertaining and/or major victories, he will look like a major threat again and people will pay to see him
                5) Canelo doesn't speak English and isn't a big trash talker so he may not sell tickets in America so quickly.

Simply put***8230;Mayweather's been building his star brand for years, Canelo is just starting his.

You have to remember that what helped Canelo become a star fast in the U.S ,was Canelo fighting on Mayweather under-cards.Mayweather did not have the luxury of fighting on big PPV under-cards when he was coming up or ever.Floyd is the one that helped Canelo become a star by allowing Canelo to be on his undercards.

Floyd came up the hard way and earned his star status by fighting top level opponents-ever since he was 17 and 0.While Canelo was forced feds bums most his career to look spectacular, and put on the under-cards of the superstar Floyd,so Canelo can become a star quickly.

Nobody disputed the fact that s Canelo contributed to the PPV sales of his fight with Floyd. The thing is you have people out there who say Mayweather can`t sell without Canelo or without fighting a Mexican and its B.S.

this guy is wrong when he says canelo fans weren't in attendance because they wouldn't throw stuff at him,,he's wrong, teams get booed all the time, chavez got booed a little at Azteca stadium after he fought whitaker, and he even responded by saying he never asked to be put on a pedestal, your own fans will boo you if needed

Lol why do so many people care...and enough to buy it every time? If he consistently carries his opponent, why keep falling for the same thing? Surely there has to be something else to it.
