A lot of people don't know who Bob Dylan is, especially if they're under a certain age and/or only listen to certain kinds of music.

"The Hurricane" plays often on my iPod. But I always thought Dylan recorded the song to create awareness for Ruben's plight. As with many artists, Bob tends towards politics and social commentary. Maybe Dylan was a fan before the song, or maybe he became a fan afterwards.

Even Marky Mark modeled The Fighter after Pacman because he didn't want to show a boring style like prison break's.
