Do the Floyd thing and put your forearm in his face and use your free hand to work his midsection. He won't be able to grip you up properly with you pushing on his throat or face so you should have room to get in some punches and going to the body should take some steam out from him.

You might get penalized for it but he will pay a price, I would also suggest putting your forearm in the same spot on his face and rubbing a bit then focusing on the spot with punches.

That is a grimy way to go but you would be dealing with a grimy tactic.

I'm surprised more guys don't "pull the chair" on Wlad so to speak. Meaning when he tries to lean on you like that pivot out and let him fall out of position. Much harder said than done. There were times when Povetkin would just fall right into Wlad's arms instead of trying to side step him.

Either way Wlad has sort of cheated the system and used this flaw in the rules to his advantage. Lewis did the same thing. Really Manny Steward changed the face of heavyweight boxing. Ali used to do this as well, but not to the extent that Manny's fighters did.

either catch him with an uppercut before he gets close enough to smother you or sidestep him and throw a combination. if that doesnt work get a little dirty, not blatantly of course but maybe push him off with your forearm like floyd or throw some low blows on the blind side like hopkins.

you could also give the ref a chance to do his job, simply put your arms out and let him know whos doing the holding and whos looking to fight. if the ref doesnt give a **** you will obviously have to take matters into your own hands.
