    Sergio Martinez and the disrespect!

    Martin Murray - undefeated

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr - undefeated

    Matthew Macklin

    Darren Barker - undefeated

    Serhiy Dzinziruk - undefeated

Paul Williams - Most feared man in boxing at the time

Kelly Pavlik - Great all around fighter

Just counting the last 3-4 opponents, this is not a guy who is a FLUKE, not a guy who is a bum, who is over rated.

All of those opponents are stiff competition or higher.

There are no Joshua Clotteys, Old Shane Mosleys, Bum Bum Rios, Guerreros or Baldomirs on this mans recent record.

How can this man not get his respect?

Martinez is a great fighter, however out of all those opponents I would say there is one only that is also great. That's paul williams and people will prolly disagree with me but i thought he was great at the time, not calling him a legend or anything. He has a solid resume the past 5 years, and is the true champ but not an ATG. He's not on the level of greatness as floyd, manny, B-hop

Until he fights Golovkin why should he? He may hold the lineal title, but everyone knows he's no longer the best in his own division. Instead of creating the fight everyone wants to see, he decides to fight Cotto, which is a good fight, but he has no business at 160.

By holding the title hostage as he's doing, it's only going to worsen the situation, with mongs like Canelo getting middleweight title shots next no doubt. There is no telling if Cotto wins what he will do with it, beside probably call out Mayweather which would be pathetic.

Martinez record isn't even that great, he arguably lost to Murray, didn't look good at all vs Macklin, he just generally is a fighter that is overhyped.

          >__>... That makes no sense. He chose Murray for Argentina and hasnt fiught since. He's holding the title hostage that he's had for ONE fight? Not fighting GGG somehow justifies him not being a great fighter? GGG didnt exist to some people until recently.. All the while Sergio is fighting Cintron, getting screwed, P Will twice (screwec with the one judge in the first fight), Pavlik, Dzinz, etc and (as much as I like him) GGG comes in, beats a few no hopers and somehow becomes the gauge for Martinez's greatness? >__>.......

Martinez is an atg type talent but it took him too long to make it and he did it at a weight range where he was much smaller and has suffered damage due to it. Martinez will have had a short but dazzling reign plus he's all class outside the ring. There's very few (new Ggg fans mostly) who seem to have an issue with him as he's one of the premier champs in the sport an generally considered top p4p. He's plenty respected evidenced by his current condition and still being favored to crush Cotto. Dont let the 3-4 crazy GGG fans tell you he's not great unless he fights him...because well... Thatd make sense...if Martinez wasnt facing SIGNIFICANTLY better opposition.

Ggg is the truth but it's basically different eras. If Sergio beats Cotto and gas a chance at Canelo he'd be an idiot to fight GGG over Canelo (Canelo better resume and name..). The title for martinez at this point is his only leverage to land a name which worked. GGG will be fine, he doesnt beed Sergio... All people will do is talk s hit on Sergio being a fossil if he does beat him.

Sergio martinez is a great fighter one who I believe can test mayweather if healthy....he had to go to other weight divisions to fight the best...he took on tough challenge after tough challenge....cotto is no walk in the park...ggg hasn't fought any 1 ...a healthy sergio beats him...

Why should Martinez have to fight Golovkin to be respected? He's a long reigning middleweight champion with numerous wins over top opposition. Martinez has beaten more accomplished fighters than Golovkin. What makes Golovkin so special that he gets so much respect when he's accomplished so much less? All this said, I do want to see Martinez Golovkin after Martinez beats Cotto. A healthy Martinez against Golovkin is a great fight.

You mean the Murray fight he arguably lost, complained like a b1tch in and refused to give the guy a rematch?

Canelo has no place near Martinez and has done nothing to deserve it. Angulo is garbage, Trout was his only competitive opponent and it was arguably not an amazing performance by Canelo.

As it stands, right now, Sergio and his last few fights have done nothing positive for his career or image. I think it's obvious he's lost respect, evident by threads like this being made, and people left, right and center saying Golovkin is downright the true middleweight king. I won't bother going into his promoters statements either.

He's lost respect, it's that simple.
