Comments Thread For: Juanma-Ponce: What a Difference a Day Didn’t Make

by Cliff Rold - It was one of those moments that confirmed to many what was already assumed. In the last bout of the evening before a main event pitting then-World Middleweight Champion Kelly Pavlik against hapless challenger Gary Lockett, a star was born.

    Allegedly.

    A limited fighter was exposed.

    Allegedly.

A couple months shy of six years later, Juan Manuel Lopez and Daniel Ponce De Leon are scheduled to do it again. They will square off on the undercard of the World Jr. Welterweight Championship battle between kingpin Danny Garcia and serviceable but likely outclassed contender Mauricio Herrera.

A lot has happened since Lopez ran through De Leon in one round to capture the WBO belt at 122 lbs. Assumptions validated on June 7, 2008, turned out to be hasty generalizations. We didn’t know then what we thought we knew. [Click Here To Read More]

Lopez is done, put your money on PDL, I don't care what happened in the 1st fight.

I always thought PDL got got cold and would have put up a much better fight if it had gone some rounds. Plus he was more rough around the edges then but now he's worked on his distance and he seems to fight guys at this long awkward distance that confuses them. Juanma is basically a sitting duck, he's got the same issue as Khan and Ortiz, their chins aren't bad they just fight with their chin up and worry too much about offense so they eat MASSIVE punches...Khan, Ortiz and Juanma all had good chins when they weren't drained but now they all have poor chins and get knocked out left and right cuz that's what happens when you eat too many punches...your start to lose that ability and now they all paying for it

I think Juanma is a tragedy waiting to happen. His punch resistance is GONE.

I'm pulling 4 PDL & he needs 2 come in the ring ready & warm, that's the entire responsibility of his trainer...

I think Ponce wins this one pretty easily. The oddsmakers have PDL as the 1/2 favorite, so I think I'm jumping on that 1.

                    This.

He should strongly consider retirement if he gets beaten badly on Saurday.
