Comments Thread For: Michael Sprott Welcomes Anthony Joshua Showdown

Two-time Prizefighter champion Michael Sprott says he would relish fighting Anthony Joshua, insisting he can be the first man to beat him in the professional ranks.

London 2012 gold medallist Joshua took his record to 5-0 by stopping Hector Alfredo Avila after just 134 seconds in Glasgow earlier this month.

Sprott is desperate to catch Joshua promoter Eddie Hearn's eye ahead of a possible big British clash, while Sam Sexton is another homegrown heavyweight who could face the Olympic champion in the near future.

Sprott would be a really good measure of just how good Joshua is.

These tin cans are not really going to develop him. He'll just end up as another David Price if he doesn't face somebody who'll fight back.

Sprott probably should have retired by now but its a good test for Joshua.

Sprott generally still takes people rounds and has fought at British level for many many years.

      Good fight.

They need to be careful on how they match Joshua. It's still too early to fight Sprott. Give it another year before diving into deep waters. These guys are survivors and experienced and one loss this early can mess up with Joshua's confidence. There's no rush. Take your time and you will be a heavyweight champion. They stumble that run fast.

Why should he have retired? He's still decent domestically, and as you even acknowledged yourself, he is still capable of taking decent opposition rounds.

I think Joshua can handle Sprott fairly easily.

He goes rounds but he still takes quite a few shots.

Obviously i don't know his financial situation but from a health point of view i would like to see him retire.

Sprott will be stopped very early, like the rest of Joshuas fights. Sprott's pretty old now 39 and going in with Joshua lol..
