Is There Enough Opposition For A Future G.O.A.T.?

Is there enough quality opposition in this era to build the resume of a new G.O.A.T.? Floyd is our P4P #1 and he's rarely in anyone's top 10 ATGs. Who would you have to beat to break that barrier? Floyd at JMW through Ward? Through LHW?

Fans wouldn't allow it you could beat 300 cab drivers then beat every top fighter in the division 5 times over and the fighter would be told they fought in a weak era.

For one thing, you can't fight only twice a year to get there. It'd take someone who fights frequently, at least 4x a year like a Golovkin. Heck, If Golovkin were to unify at every division from middle to heavy, I'd consider him the greatest lol. Never gonna happen though

Or if Loma unified every division up to Middle. But his power didn't seem to be all that even against Salido

If Pacquiao had not fought Marquez the 3rd and 4th times, beaten Floyd, PWill and Sergio he'd be in the top ten/15 for me; Same goes for Floyd, if he had fought and beat Kosta, prime Mosley, Margarito, prime Cotto, PWill and Sergio (Baldomirs, Ortiz's and Guerreros don't do much for legacy)

Yea, now that I'm looking at it, not gonna happen. Ali or SRR are pretty safe for the time being

If Floyd beats Pacquiao, Bradley and Golovkin, he will be P4P#1 ATG, having silenced all critics.

Actually outside of this board there are alot of writers who say Floyd may very well be the GOAT. I do think he still has a chance to solidify it in his last few bouts. Pac, Danny Garcia Tim Bradley/Sergio Martinez would get him there.

I do feel like boxing is one of the only sports where people will refuse to label you better than SRR. He has been the GOAT for so long it would take moving the sun and moon to usurp him.

No. Look at Duran's reign at lightweight, then factor in his middleweight win and his win against Leonard. That is monstrous. And even he isn't close to becoming the GOAT with Armstrong, Langford, Charles, etc. in the way

Talent wise yes, but its hard when you factor in compensation it's impossible for today's ighters to fight as often.

Guys like SRR and ARmstrong fought so much because the money was so little. Imagine if a floyd or manny tried to fight 6-10 times in a year with their purse structure?

no, there are not. there are no respectable writers who call floyd mayweather the greatest of all time. boxing writers are a very small fraternity. anybody who came out in public calling floyd mayweather the greatest of all time would be shunned.

                pacquiao has a better resume.

It'd be impossible with the promotion they need for their fights. Promoters wouldn't even have time for other guys

But saying that, there was a large group of ATG talent that weren't considered like the murderer's row obviously, even then. The GOAT even headed for the hills when those guys were around

Right now I honestly don't think this era could provide a fighter with the wins to break into ATG (top 10) discussions. It is common knowledge that by this point in our era today, the main fighters are Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, both exceptionally great fighters...In 20/30+ years, they will be spoken about in a legendary way and even they will not be in any top 10 ATG lists. So no I do not think this era in particular could produce a future top tier ATG.

I will use Floyd as an example because you did also...He is our P4P-1 at the moment, great great fighter, is he top tier in ATG lists? No. Is there anyone out there right now that him beating would help get him there? Realistically, again it's a no. His showtime contract and his admission of not wanting the hard fights etc will stop him. Imagine (imagine being the key word coz I know how improbable this is) he was to beat GGG, Martinez, Ward in the next couple of years. That would make him insanely great for our time, but ATG lists? I doubt he overtakes many of the fighters already top 10. But like I said, just theorising...I kind of drifted off a little but maybe you'll see my point.
