    Mayweather's Predicament

As Mayweather enters the midway point of his 6-fight deal with Showtime, the anticipation continues to build, and with a current record of 45 wins with 0 losses - retirement begins to peak on the horizon. Assuming that Mayweather finishes his contract undefeated before hanging up the gloves. Will he simply ride off into the sunset, leaving behind a storybook ending to a lucrative career?

It would be out of character for a perfectionist like Mayweather to end things on a false summit, a decision that could haunt him until the end of his days. When the dust finally settles, he will only be one fight away from superseding the great Rocky Marciano. An accomplishment that would immortalize him in the sport of boxing, an achievement that may never be duplicated (no pun intended).

Will Mayweather accept the challenge and pursuit one last fight to establish himself as the greatest boxer to retire undefeated? If so, who would you consider to be a qualified candidate to face Mayweather on that historic night?

I don't think anyone is going to feel any better about his legacy if he retires at 49-0 or 100-0 and I don't think Floyd cares either.

Sure, he can rank right there with Marciano with the future old timers complaining that Floyd didn't fight so and so when they were peak-prime the same way the current old timers complain Rocky didn't fight so and so when they were peak-prime. Just like Joe C.

Same. I'd like to see him moved up in weight and capture a 6th division title, hopefully against GGG or Martinez and not someone he's already defeated.

Barring any loses I think he would. Even if he loses I tend to think well, he is still a boxer after all...so he could just keep going

I think that everything after this SHO contract is done will be a on-off or otherwise short term deal like old, but still good legends in the NBA have gotten (eg. Jordan and Kobe). Having the 50th fight as a standalone will bring in the $$ to him and open him up to fight across promotional lines if he can find the right guy.

And this is in addition to what is just a hunch and that is that he will hold the first boxing match at the new arena that the MGM is building on the strip which will open in May 2016. All speculation on my part but I'm just following the money.

If he's 49-0 I tend to think he will go for 50-0 depending on the pricetag they are offereing him. I tend to think the next 4 fights will get him closer to brink to losing rather it be clean or controversial.

hes gna go 49-0 w showtime

then him & haymon gna create their own promotional company that can work w hbo/sho & tr/gb, since haymon already has nd can create a stable of fighters it'll work out well, itll be called hayweather promotions..

then floyd goes on to beat pacquiao, sergio, bradley, lara, ggg & thurman.. retiring 55-0

lol jk. imagine he did tho, beat them all in that order? legit best ever of all time 100%, his legacy is in his own hands.. lets see what he does...

I think he needs to fight Pacquaio, or else his career will be more defined by the fact he didn't, rather than whether he goes 48-0, 49-0, or 50-0.

Sure we know there are better challenges out there for him, perhaps involving a move to 160, but in reality looking back on his career, the big gap that everyone will remember as soon as the hear the name Floyd Mayweather is that the two greatest fighters of an era existed at the same time in the same weight class and never fought. It's the same as if Nadal and Federer had never faced each other.

thats the best thing about other sports.. there are tournament brackets that loser get eliminated and the champs from east and west or al and nl must face each other for that championship.. i wonder why boxers cant grasp this concept. boxings like an ever lasting regular season

major reason why i give props to donaire facing rigo, he couldve ducked him but nope, knew he was gna get his ass whooped nd still went for it.. BALLSY!!!
