You don't have to know if official negotiations are, or have been, going on. Mikey states in a recent Boxingscene interview that Gamboa is pricing himself out. He's making an assertion, and implying, by the way, that there was indeed some form of negotiation between the fighters' camps. Yuri has repeatedly stated that he'll take 500k, most recently on an episode of ESPN "A Los Golpes." This is a direct contradiction to Mikey's claims. We haven't heard any reply from Garcia's people to Gamboa's stance -- only from Arum that the fight is dead. Therefore, Mikey's holding the bag until such time as he can make a reasonable statement regarding why this fight is now DOA.

Not only that but other people are also saying Garcia is the one not happy with the money... AND OPPONENT! And the ones saying this aren't just fans either!Originally posted by CubanGuyNYCQuote:

I know, man. I'm really trying to remain impartial here, but Mikey's not looking good. Gamboa appeared on TV and went on record saying that he'll take 500k. Steve Kim's saying Garcia's not appreciating HBO's treatment regarding his next appearance on the network. Is Mikey going to say they're lying? Misinformed? Garcia needs to speak up.Comment

Let mikey respond to the 500k comment before you go around saying that they are ducking him. You dont know if he was demanding more than that before and now all of a sudden changed it to look good. Regardless i think its all to sell the fight . This is a fight the fans wanna see it will be made.Comment

My question is how do you know that Gamboa would actually take that amount? You don't have to know if official negotiations are, or have been, going on. You seem like a level headed poster but I'm seeing a very deep bias with you. I understand Gamboa is your guy, but we don't know the details of what is going on.
Gamboa is the same person who didn't show up for the Rios presser and demanded more money then. He left his promoter and went to 50 to specifically make more money.
My point is, to think that what you read on twitter is what is really going on is absurd.Comment

I've mentioned that ESPN interview several times, but you keep ignoring it as if it didn't happen. I have no idea what Gamboa is really thinking, or what the negotiations might've been like. But I do believe that Yuri's much more committed when he makes that 500k affirmation on a television broadcast, in reply to questions from JCC and others. It's not just a "tweet" from the comfort of his home.My question is how do you know that Gamboa would actually take that amount?

Gamboa doesn't manage himself, I don't know why that's so hard to understand. He can go on whatever show and name any price, that's not how fights are negotiated or made.I've mentioned that ESPN interview several times, but you keep ignoring it as if it didn't happen. Speaking for myself, I am withholding ultimate judgement until Mikey replies. But numbers are thrown around all the time with any form of negotiation. All those guys know this. The fight is now dead. Someone was unreasonable, or simply didn't want the fight. HBO doesn't care for Garcia without Gamboa. Apparently, the network agrees that Yuri is worth about as much as Mikey. Arum made an offhand comment about Gamboa wanting half the purse. Unreasonable? HBO apparently doesn't think so.Let mikey respond to the 500k comment before you go around saying that they are ducking him. I understand that, man. But Gamboa, as one of the principles, is obviously privy to the state of the negotiations. Agreed? He has consistently put out the 500k figure. I have to believe that's a very real number. The total purse might well have been a million, or thereabouts. It's entirely conceivable that that was what Arum was referring to when the said, "Why should he (Gamboa) be getting as much money as Garcia?"
I'd love to believe that, but Arum seemed pretty firm in his comments. If there's any hope, we'll know soon enough.Comment
