  • Comments Thread For: Mayweather Tried To Warn Broner About Tougher Fights

The pound-for-pound king, Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26KOs), explained how he tried to mentor up and coming star Adrien Broner (27-1, 22KOs), who last December suffered his first pro loss against Marcos Maidana. Mayweather will get the opportunity to avenge his friend's defeat, when he faces Maidana in a welterweight unification on May 3rd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Mayweather said he tried to warn Broner about the dangers of not taking a fight more seriously when it involves a higher level of opponent.

It boggles the mind that one moment Floyd is likeable and the next he isn't.

But the point remains - AB is too immature and just not good enough for the B and A level fighters. I think Floyd is doing a massive humanitarian effort for that swagger jacker by beating up on Maidana, because if he fought Maidana again so soon, he'd get killed again. AB needs to call out Maidana after Maidana cashes out a few times and gets older and more shopworn.

Its like with kids, they copy the stuff you say but it takes a while for them to absorb the lessons you try and teach them.

Of course you would think Broner would listen to a fighter with floyd's experience but hey-this is the swag era you can't tell some cats nothing.

That thread title is so misleading. I love it.

It's creepy to think Broner's calling Floyd "big brother" when they're in private. He's a damn stalker.

The fact that Broner responded like that, I'd be all ears personally.

Maybe we aren't listening correctly. Maybe he is stalking him and he's calling him "Big, brother". but the selfie from floyd makes that unlikely . lol!!

Tells you all you need to know, doesn't it? One of the greatest fighters ever, who you are trying to emulate and are stealing your style from, tries to teach you, and you are telling him "you got this."

              Dumbass.

Broner needs to grow up and stop believing that he's the new mayweather. But it'll probably take a couple more defeats until he fully realizes this (and acknowledges it to the public) - if he ever will. Broner is just not that special, when all is said and done. You should always admire people who have ambition, but in Broner's case, his assumed wannabe behavior just ends up looking pathetic and a bit sad. Maidana did what he could do in giving the wannabe a wake up call.

Broner will definitely be on the Floyd/Chino card

Floyd needed to teach Broner the art of cherry picking.

When to pounce on old great fighters when they are well past their prime.

How to target green fighters that are hyped.

And the excuses to use to avoid the real threat.
