Comments Thread For: Floyd Mayweather on Why He Chose Maidana over Khan

Floyd Mayweather put on his promoter’s hat Saturday as he held court during a press conference at the MGM Grand announcing his May 3 welterweight unification clash with Marcos Maidana.

“Marcos Maidana is nonstop action,” Mayweather said. “He comes straight ahead, cut the ring off and he loves to brawl. But he throws awkward shots from long distance that make things happen in fights. [Click Here To Read More]

Khan should'nt have ever been in the running. He has never fought at 147 and he sure as hell is'nt a champion.

      Maidana vs Alexander 2

If Mayweather doesn't stop Maidana or at least shut him out 12-0..it'll be a subpar performance. Broner was overhyped. Broner has arguably lost to Ponce and Paulie before even coming into the fight with Maidana. He was an overrated hype machine because he tried emulate Floyd's style. The other opponents Maidana beat were C+ level fighters.

Unless Floyd gets old overnight, this will be a huge mismatch. Maidana does have a puncher's chance, but he couldn't even stop Broner when he dropped him twice and probably lost the last two rounds. How is be possibly going to trouble Floyd?

Pacquiao, besides the Marquez fights, has dominated every opponent he's faced since 2005. Hopefully, that fight can be made in 2015.

Maidana was the better choice over Khan

Maidana is the better choice. Khan has looked horrible in his last four fights, including his last fight against a D-list fighter. Khan was knocked down by a washed up fighter who was never any good. I don't see how anyone can say that Khan will give Floyd trouble at this point in his career. Floyd is way too accurate with his punches for Khan's suspect chin.

He had khan running for dear life and pacquiao definitely is ducking Floyd jr. No doubt about it. Mayweather already had May 3rd and the MGM booked.then PAC beat rios and chose to in April. Simple and plain.

If he was fighting Rios I bet he'd find a lot of superlatives to sell that fight too.

And why was there a poll in the first place?

Talking Maidana up but agreeing that Khan was more dangerous and therefor he chose Maidana.

I think it's a fair statement from Mayweather.

It's not the worst fight, and by any other standard Maidana would be a huge threat, but there's not a lot of fights left in Floyds career, and we want to see him close out with a big ****!

Floyd is the king of the ring right now. No question. But it was he and nobody else who said, "Let the fans decide my next opponent," by putting it out to a vote on twitter. The vote went to Khan and Floyd has made a complete twit of himself by going against that poll. No question.
