He showed he couldn't defend himself THE ENTIRE NIGHT! Canelo wasn't opening up to finish...he'd open up a little then back off. That final flurry wasn't coming. Tony Weeks made the right decision.

Defense is a part of boxing for a reason. You don't want your fights stopped in that manner? Learn to ****ing defend yourself. Period.

If I ever see that scumbag, I'm dropping his old ass.

Great stoppage, anyone who disagrees, doesn't understand the game. Angulo was toyed with, Canelo showed serious skills.

I disagree with the stoppage. It reminds me of the Mancini/Chacon fight that Richard Steele stopped (which was a bad stoppage btw).

Angulo was still able and willing to fight. So the fight should have continued. How badly he was losing is irrelevant. It's not the ref's job to keep score or decide who is going to win/lose.

so if he didn't have a daughter the fight should have continued? refs should factor in how many people love the fighter? WON'T SOMEONE PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!

My way of thinking is that as fans, we expect for a fight to get stopped when a fighter is half dead. Angulo took a lot of punishment and maybe fights should get stopped sooner than they normally do. I mean take a look at Magomed Abdusalamov.

No!!! Great stoppage. Timing was even perfect, that last punch was one of too many and am glad he stopped it without having to watch Canelo land combos first, you don't have to be on the ropes before a ref stops you.

Tony Weeks did us all a favor.. If the fighter aint gonna give it his all, then stop the fight for him. Why let the shenanigans continue?

Angulo wasn't doing anything. Canelo was in no trouble. **** it.. I was all team Perro to start the fight but he didn't do anything tonight to warrant Weeks to let him continue

That's what the issue is. People have a perception over what the perfect stoppage should be. I actually do think it was a little early too but viewing it rationally, the timing of it by that point was irrelevant.

Angulo was getting a beat-down and had no momentum going into the final 2 rounds. That fight was getting borderline sadistic - I don't want to see a fighters face getting wrecked (for the second fight in a row) and brain scrambled because of their reputation as a warrior.

Angulo got hit with more clean hard shots in that fight than most fighter get hit with in an entire career. It was a good stoppage in the context of the punishment he had taken.

In the context of the round, it was not that great. If he was coming on and Canelo was getting tired I might answer differently, but every time Pero threw punches, Canelo was just being slick, standing infront of him with his hands down being untouchable, and then returning fire with hard crisp clean shots.

Angulo got hurt badly to the body with the first combination Canelo threw, he had a game poker face, but you see him pull that elbow in after that hit, and not let it go. He was pitty patting because he was scared of the way Canelo was whipping that shot to the body.

The fight was becoming more competitive rather than less. Also, Angulo is a pressure fighter. Pressure fighters are often most dangerous at the end of a fight, after they've made their opponents expend their energy. This case was no different: Canelo had expended loads of energy.
