You made a very good point. If the only reason is to get more revenues then you have a good explanation why not choose Lara. The problem is I believe the main reason is that he knows Lara will beat him and they are protecting the cash cow because I believe a Lara fight will get decent revenues due to the expectation. The same of Mickey Garcia vs Gamboa. Your assumption that a lara fight won't get enough money is an excuse for ducking.
Then the question is. Why to fight garndpa's if you can get decent money also with Lara and get respect as well?. Unless Lara be beaten in the near future his shadow will come every time Canelo make an interview and everybody will be asking why he is afraid of Lara. Why don't get the respect to clean your name as another hyped fighter like Donaire was?Last edited by racostaa; 03-07-2014, 09:20 AM.Comment

This is what I was TRYING to tell the Triple G cats....they felt obligated to repeat the stuff Abel told reporters....Golovkin wants to unify the belts but anybody who follows this sport like we do saw Nelo being next the Maravilla-Cotto winner!!.....but we knew that was just an excuse to avoid Ward.....unfinished business at 160 turns into Chavez Jr @ 168
Good fight for Nelo if Perro doesn't ruin him!!Comment

Some people here are wildly overrating Lara. He is decent, but he is nowhere near as good as Rigo or even Gamboa. He has exactly one really dominant win over a top jr. middleweight, and that was a very good style matchup for him (if two boxer types fight, the more athletic one usually wins). Nothing I have seen of him so far suggests that he is heads and shoulders above the rest of the field at 154.Comment

In terms of boxing quality you may be right. Martinez vs Alvarez is big. But in terms of money Canelo/Cotto is the fight to make. Huge Mexico vs Puerto Rico fight. It would compete as one of the biggest events of the year in boxing. For those of you that think GB is rooting for Cotto your dead wrong. If Martinez comes out and blows Cotto away lets say, Martinez vs Canelo would be HUGE.
I think bigger because people think higher of Martinez at his best than they do Cotto at his best.
Either fight would be big, and it's a win/win situation to be honest.Comment

I've heard this rhetoric before. Canelo will never challenge anyone, he's protected, GB doesn't want to lose it's golden goose.
What you might be forgetting is that just like people are claiming Canelo would never fight Lara now, they use to say the same thing about Trout. Remember after he beat Cotto how he was proclaimed the best guy at 54. No one thought Canelo would step up in the ring with him, not even his promoters wanted the fight. But guess what? Canelo pulled ranked, said I want the fight, and he got the fight and beat Trout.
You have no basis for assuming Canelo won't fight Lara or is ducking him or anyone for that matter. He has said it's a fight he would be interested in, in the future. However right now if he beats Angulo he sets himself up perfectly for a huge money fight between the winner of Cotto/Martinez. That is the fight his team is going to look for and you can't really blame him for it. Again if the tables were turned and Lara had the opportunity to fight Vanes or Cotto/Martinez, who would he pick?
And more importantly would you be saying he's ducking Vanes? Or that Cotto and Martinez are old?Last edited by JJRod; 03-07-2014, 09:46 AM.Comment

If ur GGG I can see wanting to fight Martinez first everyone wants to see that fight. Otherwise why ni t fight chavez , then Ward after that. If GGG moves to 168 fights 1-2 times then doesnt fight Ward, only then is it a duck.

Martinez hasn't wanted to face thr toughest challenge at 160 for yrs. He was constantly calling out floyd, pac. Now its cotto, maybe canelo. If martinez doesnt fight GGG this yr - THAT IS A DUCKComment
