A win over Herrera wouldn't prove that though.

And it is very hard not to see this as nothing more than a marketing move. It wasn't that long ago when Angel Garcia was screaming "USA baby, USA!!" at the MGM grand and mentioning how no Argentinians were beating an american fighter. No matter how many PR flags they start rocking from here on out, I can't buy the concept of Garcia being a PR fighter.

Verdejo is a true PR fighter, Juanma is a true PR fighter, Calderon is a true PR fighter, Cotto is a true PR fighter, Tito is a true PR fighter... They all speak island spanish. The nationality is imprinted on them.

You are wrong. Everyone here still likes Dulorme. He stills rep PR.

True Boricua? Please ask him if he knows what is La Borinquena. I bet he thinks Preciosa is the National Anthem.

GBP is doing a bad job with Danny. There is no promotion of the fight here. You can still buy cheap, expensive, all kind of prices tickets for the fight. Even with Juanma who is still a fan favorite in Bayamon.

I'll be there and I am more interested in seeing Scott vs Wilder.

Whether he faces another Rican or not has nothing to do with the fact that he is not one of them, period. He cannot just walk in at the last minute decide he wants their undivided, completaly devoted fanship, it doesnt work that way. Puerto Rico is a fantastically close community and a culture that is quite developed and special among themselves and it is easy to understand why they are proud, why they are so close.

Danny will recieve conditional support from them - and Boxers from the island will recieve unconditional support from them. They dont want a temporary fix, a stop-gap with Danny, they want a champion from Puerto Rico. Maybe Verdejo is that, maybe someday Dulorme if he can sustain after his Abregu loss and keep winning.

Whats rediculous is when someone starts talking about DNA. DNA and culture are two seperate things. If an Italian guy was born and raised in America and never lived in Italy, if he visits Italy and barely speaks (if at all) the language, he is seen as an American. Not one of them. Not a part of their lifestyle, upbringing, experiences, culture, dynamics, outlook, understanding of their history. It is as simple as that.

Garcia is 26 years old and now all of a sudden decides to adopt Puerto Rico? And from behind the marketing sceme of GBP? Anyone can see through that. He would have had more success if he had moved back there and lived there a few years at least and integrated with the culture and SPOKE the language and openly claimed them when he was winning on TV and being interviewed. It is WAY TOO contrived at this late stage. And he is acting too desperate for their approval. Approval is natural, not forced, not begged for. The more you beg for approval, the less likely it is to come.

Nothing against Danny but he just needs to keep doing what he's doing and be humble with his victories. That's how you get fans.

How Floyd has these many fans is beyond me.

Shame on them then! Not embracing him cuz he's born in the USA. But when Cotto fights in msg all those USA born Puerto Ricans are more than Puerto Rican enough to give him a legit home court advantage! Outta 20,000 fans that have packed msg to see him, how many of those are island born Puerto Ricans??? Not even a quarter of it probably. But they not true Boricuas though.

HOW ABOUT YOU SHOW THEM YOU CAN SPEAK SPANISH! why the puerto rican comes out suddenly? marketing perhaps however puerto ricans are extremely critical about their champs! so im not sure danny understands the huge responsabilty that comes with being the big next P.R. star!! ask cotto, juanma & young valero
