Yodmongkol Vor Saengthep retained his WBA interim 112 lb. title with a second successive win over Japanese opposition. He can consider himself extremely fortunate to have prevailed this time, scoring a majority decision after having been second best for much of the fight with Japan's Takuya Kogawa. This was the best fight I've seen this year by far. Amazing stuff, this is why I love the flyweight division. Both men had to dig deep. My guy feeling is that Kogawa should've got the nod but it was a close fight and one that wasn't the easiest to score. Saengthep definitely landed the harder shots and looked like he was on the verge of stopping Kogawa a handful of times. But Kogawa had a big hand speed advantage and was able to outwork Saengthep. Kogawa showed incredible grit to keep fighting and somehow kept finding energy to throw a insane amount to punches. If this fight was on HBO Kogawa would've broke compubox records. He had to have thrown 130 plus punches a round it was one of the most game performances I've ever seem from a fighter. IMO Kogawa reminds me of a mini Arakawa. He's not a southpaw, he's got much better hand speed and isn't quite as crude as Arakawa. But his shear volume of punches, toughness and rugged determination is equal to that of Arakawa.
I highly recommend anyone watch this fight if they get a chance to.
