He tried man look how long he defended the title and actually made weight for. He didn't cheat, he was penalized and that was the end of it. If Loma would have felt totally cheated he would've refused the fight, besides Arum could've gotten him another title shot for the vacant spot.

Do you really think Salido didn't try? If they didn't make weight the opponent can refuse to fight too you know?

Families depend on that money bro not just the fighter, the trainer the conditioning coach etc. No fighter works alone, it's a team effort. You're supposedly in the medical profession you should know how hard it is to make weight considering how long Salido has made 126. He couldn't do it anymore you can't possibly know he didn't try.

He ****ed up but I bet you've never made a mistake at work right?
No,I'm not in fighting shape now. I understand what Salido should have gone through to make 126 lbs. He should have tried to lose the last 2 lbs and not weigh 135-140 lbs 1 week prior to the fight as people close to him are saying that he weighed.A fighter can easily rehydrate safely now in 24 hours as much as 8-10 lbs and some boxers even more.

Chavez Jr showed up camp for Vera I at 206 lbs.(his words). The fight was contarcted at 166 lbs then moved to 168 and then finally 172.That is shameful. When your only job is to be a professional fighter, than be professional about it. Salido got caught trying to make a weight that he simply can no longer make that much seems true.

        That's too harsh, too extreme.

Being financially penalized and stripped of their belt is enough. At the end of the day, it is up to the other fighter to accept the fight or not.

Well then that guy won't fight, since there would be no fight that would screw over the guy who did nothing wrong (no fight no pay for them either) and may still want the fight.

It is not a workable solution for the people involved in the sport, it is a cutting off your nose to spite your face strategy.

The current system of fines seems fair enough. A fighter forfeiting his entire purse is draconian...terribly harsh.

Salido is 33 years old, and he's been fighting at 126 for twelve years. That's a long time to make such an unnatural weight. Siri hydrated to 147. That gives you just an inkling of what this guy's true weight is. He probably walks around at over 160. At his age, Salido simply can't get safely down to featherweight.

I am in big favor of the fight being canceled and the fighter who missed weight being held responsible financially

You are already given HUGE leeway with weigh-ins in boxing, being over weight is unacceptable IMO. So are the day before weigh ins and rehydrating 20 pounds

To use your analogy, this is like a fast food worker dropping your burger on the ground, stepping on it, and then watching you eat it. As for me,if I screw up at work...people die (not being dramatic, medical profession)
You screwing up at work whether your a healthcare worker or a burger picker you still get paid , Now your talking about a surgeon being late was this fighter late to the ring no or someone stomping on a hamburger this is a crime, making weight is not a crime so your argument doesn't hold water. A fighter not making weight is just irresponsible. Many young people are irresponsible when they do their job does this mean we just don't pay them ?

These rules are piss weak. I hope Kovalev moves down in weight, shows up at the weigh-ins weighing 165, rehydrates to 185 for the fights, and leaves all your favourite stars at 147, 154, and 160 convulsing on the canvass with a medical crew hovering over them. Then you might realise the importance of fighters making the weight they're supposed to.

The penalty is fine, boxing is hard enough, sometimes your body shuts down and it becomes impossible to make weight without really destroying yourself. Taking their whole purse would be criminal after the amount of work they put for months.

It would be like taking away your entire week's paycheck if you miss a day off work. If you agree that their purse should be taken away entirely you're a ****ed up human being. Try doing a 10th of their work see if you think it's fair.
Well if you're in tip top shape and dehydrated yet STILL trying to shed lbs, then u know what that means? You're fighting in the wrong weight class. I have zero sympathy.
