Should fighters lose all their money for not making weight?

I am embarrassed for the sport that I love when a fighter with a 4-8 week training camp can't make weight. As a fighter, you have 2 jobs: (1)to entertain the fans and win convincingly and (2) to make weight. I say that we put a stop to this new cheater's trend and take close to the whole purse.I would let the overweight fighter keep 10 %.

For those of you wondering, I thought Lomachenko did not deserve a title shot after 1 fight..what a joke and against a hardened vet like Salido too. It was a bad fight. Fat guy vs a novice. I don't care what his amateur record says, all fighters should earn title shots.

What are your thoughts on this?

Yes they should. That way they will make weight or not fight at all.

Their entire purse? No. They do this for a living. There comes a point where your body tells you that you can't cut X amount of weight anymore. Sucks that it happened to Salido this go round but he got penalized and moved on.

I think guys that miss weight and don't try to lose the extra lbs on purpose(Mikey Garcia and Broner) should be penalized more than what they'd normally get deducted by the commission.

Clearly it hurts in a title bout to lose 20 %(10 to comision and 10 to your opponent is the standard deal now) and your belt but...waht about the non-title fights?

Chavez showing up at 173 lbs for a fight contracted at 166 lbs?

Mayweather showing up 2 lbs over vs Marquez ?

Rios losing his belt on the scales.

Too many other examples to list.

It is unprofessional and hurting the sport.

I am a Chavez fan(love body punchers) but his act is wearing thin even on his own fans. He sold 7200 tickets for Vera II. He normally sells 13-14k for his fights but people are tiring of the B.S training.

In addition to monetary punishment, you could punish the fighter via points. Let's say a fight takes place at 140. If a fighter is less than 0.7lbs (140*0.005) over the limit he gets docked 1 point in the first round, so he'll get 9 points if he wins and 8 if he loses. If he is between 0.7 and 1.4 he gets docked 1 point for each of the first 2 rounds, or 2 points in total, and so on. A fighter coming in 4.2 pounds or more over (at 140, anyway) would already have lost half the fight, which I think is fair enough.

If it produced a meaningful shift in attitudes towards fighter's agreeing to bouts where they're at risk of missing weight, then it would ultimately be worth it. I doubt it would produce that change however.

They would just pull out of the fight and if they needed a doctors note to avoid getting sued I doubt any pro boxer would have a problem getting it. Maybe lose a percentage of their purse and some type of suspension would help.

In San Antonio, Texas for that matter, Chavez Jr used to sell. His popularity took a hit. Folks at my job today weren't even murmuring about his fight. All while the talks of Floyd, Canelo and El Perro continue to come up. Shame how Jr's shamed that name. Off-topic, I didn't care for his antics in the last round.. Even with him being booed, he showed a much better performance and knew he won. I wasn't too bothered with it as much of the crowd was.

Now, If a fighter tries to lose the extra weight and simply can not.. 20%.. If he doesn't even try, 30-35% for a title or non-title fight would be ok with me. I don't know what the purses were for Salido-Loma, put I think 15k hurt Salido somewhat.. Maybe 5-7.5k extra would've raised a red flag and had him attempt to lose the 2 lbs(I don't think he tried to.)
