White Boxers

Why is it that every "adequate" white boxer who comes on the scene is overly hyped and his abilities are inflated by both the media and the fans?

Gatti
Hatton
Malignaggi?
etc.

There are now 3 or 4 threads about Malignaggi - a trashtalking, featherdusting, juniorwelterweight in a talent-laden division who hasn't beaten anyone of note. Huh?

The white boxing fan keeps searching for the next Great White Hope. Meanwhile, there are tons of more deserving Hispanic fighters who fly below the radar. I'd love to see Gatti vs. Castillo. Malignaggi is saying that he is the best 140er in the world. Rock Allen will knock you out in two. Castillo will make you cry. Corrales will make you quit. Casamayor will embarrass you.

I'll just sit and watch as each Great White Hype gets knocked off.

I know you don't get Arturo Gatti but if you think people like him because he's white then you are more off than even I realized

Malignaggi's pretty good. Hatton's skills, well... he's solid. Gatti, hyped because of his in ring performances, not his skin color.

I dont care what skin colour a man is. I'm white and my favourite boxers are James Toney, Ricky Hatton and Diego Corrales. None of them are even the same colour! Colour is hardly ever bought up on these forums, something I think is because boxing is one of the few sports that truly transcends race. Why make soemthing that is not an issue and issue? Its ridiculous.

It not about colors but skills.

Each one have there own skills.

Castillo,Cassamoyra,Corrales..etc are good not because there nationality or color but because they train hard and tak opprituinties to reach there

actully, with many african american boxers dominating the sport, it is not uncommon to look for the "next white hope" esp in the heavyweight division
