Technically it's the "right" fight with respect to his poll - however it's not the best competitive fight. That would've been something like Lara or Martinez at 154.

Maidana is at this point more deserving given the "wow" factor (i.e., Broner win)

I still don't see the sense in Mayweather fighting Martinez @ 154. Sergio is the recognized #1 Middleweight in the world and a current title holder.

why not fight him at Middle, instead of bringing him down in weight?

And he would have had a belt, so the fight could be "justified" as a unification fight (who's the best at 147).
