I'm sometimes baffled by predictions here. This is akin to when people were saying Márquez would get stopped by Pacquiao in their third match. I was convinced that he would beat or at the least look very good against Pacquiao. Then all of a sudden people were saying, "Wow, Marquez still has it." Well, duh. They just looked at his age, coupled with Pacquiao's crazy winning streak and assumed he would crumble like Cotto or De la Hoya or just go through the motions as Mosley and Clottey, never taking into consideration the styles.
Is Angulo the biggest fighter Canelo's faced? Yes. Biggest puncher? Yes.
But I can't help but question Angulo's mentality coming into this fight. He's had a fight where he was essentially getting outboxed by Lara (although to be fair, knocked him down twice), had JUST knocked Lara down and hurt him badly and then all of a sudden turned around and quit.
Now before you say, "You would quit too if your eye swelled up like that." Yes, but at the very least wait for a clinch or fight to the end of the round; a round where Lara had been dropped. Angulo was outboxed by a fading Kermit Cintrón, punched himself out against Kirkland, and quit abruptly in a round where he had Lara hurt. And don't get me started on that eye; we don't know what its condition is. The only ballsy thing Angulo has done recently is decide to fight Canelo after something like that.
Canelo's only flaws that will play into Angulo's hands is that he's shown hints of inactivity and has gone to the ropes occasionally (vs Floyd, Trout, Cintrón, Gómez). But when have you seen him fight and thought that he was tired to the point where it looked like he might be broken down?
What's Canelo coming off of? A loss to Mayweather? He can look back on that and forgive himself. It was Mayweather, big deal.
Canelo has decent punching power, especially to the body...and in combinations. And I hate to bring the comparison up, but...Alfredo does not have the relentlessness, chin, or heart of a fighter like, say...Margarito.
Canelo will get tagged and Angulo is the bigger puncher, but when I stack up their attributes side by side, I fully expect Canelo to stop the battle worn Angulo somewhere in the 10th.
I just hope it's a great fight regardless what happens.
I think we are in for a disappointing fight here. Something tells me some people know exactly how its going to end if you know what I mean. I hope I'm wrong as two boys kissing in church though!
The hardest part is swallowing the pill. In time if you wake up you will understand fully that judges are paid, refs are paid and above all, fighters are paid to throw a fight. At the end of the day all that is left is money.
What I'm saying is that at this point in time Canelo is 10x better, stronger, faster than Cotto. Showtime and Golden Boy are stealing everyone's money not by cherry picking fighters but by paying them extra to lose a fight.
I'm pretty open to that understanding, though some may shun it as with specific fighters, their abilities cemented their place in this sport.
I'm fully aware of corrupt judging(judges)/referees/promoters as there is a ****load of fights that display this.

Good post. The only thing I take issue with is the bold. Angulo was about as relentless as they come against Lara (until the eye thing, of course). Perro was non-stop versus Landy, and I'm not certain Canelo will be able to handle that kind of pressure. The way I see it, if Alfredo caught up to Lara, he'll catch up to Saul. But, again, it's styles. Canelo might just have enough on his side of the ledger to take this. My instinct says Alvarez wins, but my mind tells me Perro has a real shot. This will be a good fight.
I am going for Angulo mostly because I like him better as a person. I think Perro stands a small chance against Canelo and there are a few things I feel work for Perro that I am seeing about Canelo and his team. I like the fact that Canelo is training in his garage for this fight and is too stubborn to add anything different to his camp after his fight with Mayweather went the way it did. I like the fact that Canelo's team had no Plan B or Plan C for Mayweather, it showed me how they react when things get tough in there. I like the fact that Canelo's brother is probably going to get his ass kicked by Sergio Thompson before Canelo has to get in the ring with Perro and he will have that on his mind. I liked that a 135 pound Jose Luis Cotto had Canelo badly rocked and I thought a smaller Alfonoso Gomez frustrated Canelo Alvarez when he put a percentage of the pressure on Canelo that Perro will be putting on him. I think Canelo is falling into his own hype and I really do think he has never fought a contender at the same level as Angulo. I have heard Gabriel Montoya report that Angulo is in excellent shape and I really enjoyed the way Angulo fought Lara, a fight that I gave him no chance at all to win a round so that shows me he is learning something from Virgil Hunter. I am praying we can really see that partnership pay off in the way the Maidana/Garcia partnership has in this fight.
Angulo has a great trainer and he has the style that can bring up Canelo's stamina issues. At time Trout was able to walk down Canelo and he seem to tire a bit..Angulo is more of a pressure fighter.
Canelo throws explosive combinations and he always fights at one steady measured pace. His days at 154 are definitely numbered.
Only concern for me is if Angulo's eye didn't heal up from the Lara bout.
I know people are going to say well Angulo lost to Kirkland but those are 2 completely different styles.
I don't make troll threads either. I truly believe Angulo will win and will have some money on the fight.
In boxing anything can happen but I don't see Angulo's pressure style being an advantage, rather a disadvantage.
In boxing, one of the things a great counter puncher can do to stop the pressure, and punch count of his opponent is to counter him cleanly with shots. Canelo can touch Angulo and that will slow his output down. Much like Mayweather does to many of his opponents.
Not saying Canelo is Mayweather but you know what I'm trying to say. There's a reason Canelo's people agreed to Angulo. First off the style fits Canelo well, and second, Angulo is a good name for a PPV.
I think Angulo is dangerous, but in the end I see Canelo picking him apart and landing even harder shots than Lara was able to land.
