I'm sometimes baffled by predictions here. This is akin to when people were saying Márquez would get stopped by Pacquiao in their third match. I was convinced that he would beat or at the least look very good against Pacquiao. Then all of a sudden people were saying, "Wow, Marquez still has it." Well, duh. They just looked at his age, coupled with Pacquiao's crazy winning streak and assumed he would crumble like Cotto or De la Hoya or just go through the motions as Mosley and Clottey, never taking into consideration the styles.
Is Angulo the biggest fighter Canelo's faced? Yes. Biggest puncher? Yes.
But I can't help but question Angulo's mentality coming into this fight. He's had a fight where he was essentially getting outboxed by Lara (although to be fair, knocked him down twice), had JUST knocked Lara down and hurt him badly and then all of a sudden turned around and quit.
Now before you say, "You would quit too if your eye swelled up like that." Yes, but at the very least wait for a clinch or fight to the end of the round; a round where Lara had been dropped. Angulo was outboxed by a fading Kermit Cintrón, punched himself out against Kirkland, and quit abruptly in a round where he had Lara hurt. And don't get me started on that eye; we don't know what its condition is. The only ballsy thing Angulo has done recently is decide to fight Canelo after something like that.
Canelo's only flaws that will play into Angulo's hands is that he's shown hints of inactivity and has gone to the ropes occasionally (vs Floyd, Trout, Cintrón, Gómez). But when have you seen him fight and thought that he was tired to the point where it looked like he might be broken down?
What's Canelo coming off of? A loss to Mayweather? He can look back on that and forgive himself. It was Mayweather, big deal.
Canelo has decent punching power, especially to the body...and in combinations. And I hate to bring the comparison up, but...Alfredo does not have the relentlessness, chin, or heart of a fighter like, say...Margarito.
Canelo will get tagged and Angulo is the bigger puncher, but when I stack up their attributes side by side, I fully expect Canelo to stop the battle worn Angulo somewhere in the 10th.
I just hope it's a great fight regardless what happens.
