Dumb? No, not really. You gained experience fighting injured under pressure and now you know you can do it again if the situation arises. The injury will heal.
Tell me... is this being a warrior?

lol We'll, for starters, your concern over "warriorhood." Older guys don't usually concern themselves with stuff like that, unless they're immature. (I'm not calling you that, but I would be considered so at my age.) Another clue is the fact that you're fighting as an amateur. Not many older guys in the ams, I don't think.Comment

I don't think it makes you a warrior but a very prideful person. Years ago I did amateur boxing and had already had a torn acl which I had surgery on. One sparring session I moved laterally and tore that bad boy all over again. Later on that night it hit me, I love boxing and I do this for fun but I'm not getting paid for this. That was the last time I stepped in the ring. Nothing wrong with swollowing your pride especially if its not going to benefit you at all in the long runComment

naw man,you aint getting paid, and you can damage your knee beyond repair, not smart at all and i do not know why your coach even allowed you to continue..go see a doctor asap and take some time off or you will be walking with a cane the rest of your lifeComment

I fight amateur, just for fun, but i love to do it and love going to war. Anyways...
Friday i faught and i should say i already have a torn ACL but have done a lot fo physio to make it stronger and wear a knee brace. I have hurt it before in sparring and had to take some time off, but since then i did hard physio and it hasnt been much of a problem except for getting sore.
On Friday within 30 seconds into the second round i twisted my knee bad. At this point it was bad pain and i could barley move. My entire strategy in this fight was to throw a combo and take a step to the side, then to the other side etc. So i needed my feet. Also i wanted to press forward get on the inside, then step to the side, be it that the guy was a few inches taller than me. Couldnt do that with my knee.
Once my knee got ****ed I almost gave up in my head, knowing i'd lose, but i told my coach that i wanted to finish the fight. Is it a warrior, even if i said im gonna lose but still keep fighting. I feel like i shouldnt have had that mentality, i should have said in my head, despite my knee, i will find a way to win. But regardless i stuck it out, now on Sunday i can barley walk and my knee is messed bad.
No. It's dumb. A warrior is brave enough to know it's not worth ruining his knee for free for some false sense of being a badass.Comment

Yes you have a warrior's mentality, but, but you should have a leash on it to let it out when necessary. So ACL is one of those chronic injuries that can end careers even if you arent making one in boxing its still necessary to avoid making it worse, but you knew you could've fought on right? So you shouldve let it go. What if it caused permanent limping?
If this was jaw/nose/hand you shouldve gone on. Its not even a matter of being paid or not because pride is important too. But like i said you have to put that warrior on hold.
So if this was a puncher like Thurman whose every shot makes you think of a second career/hobby then you shouldve gone on. But you have to make rational judgements about your health. Sometimes its just not worth it.Last edited by Box-Office; 03-02-2014, 08:52 PM.Comment
