Vasyl Lomachenko Made Me a Fan

Let us make no bones about it, Orlando Salido won last night and in my opinion, won rather decisively, 116-112. Having said that, he (Salido) failed to make weight and made no attempt to lose any of the extra baggage and then came in at a whopping 146lb for a featherweight contest. Salido is supposed to be the longstanding professional but the only professional behaviour was exhibited by the young Ukrainian.

I know many fighters who would have refused to get in the ring unless Salido tried to lose some weight or they would have asked for a re-hydration clause, yet Lomachenko, the two time Olympic gold medalist did neither. What he did do was attempt something most fighters would not even dare to contemplate: win a world title from a seasoned champion in only his second pro fight.

The way he went about it was amateurish but that was to be expected. He was not as active as he should have been, maybe if he had thrown more, he would have won more rounds and possibly the fight. It was obvious that when the Ukrainian was throwing, he was almost always landing, so sharp and accurate were his punches. Salido, the wiley old champion, was landing too, big, big shots and yet Lomachenko showed a great chin, barely flinching.

There is also the question of the body shots and low blows, never once did Lomachenko complain or make faces at the referee, that to me was the most endearing aspect. In terms of the referee, he has a terrible night, he quite clearly saw some of the low blows yet refused to do anything about it. Why?

Somewhere down the line there maybe a rematch and I for one would love to see it but first, the amateur great needs more professional rounds under his belt, there is quite clearly something great lurking beneath the surface.

Yep, i'm too now a big fan of Loma, he didn't complain or b!tch about the illegal blows. People who are gobbling on Salido's ballsack really a reality check. He came in as a Welterweight!? The guy is a disgrace to the sport. Can't believe he felt he needed to be a whole stone heavier in weight and fight so dirty to beat a guy who was relatively inexperienced at this level***8230; And even then he nearly got his ass handed to him towards the end of the fight.

Getting the W or the L is not everything in boxing.

Salido won, but that was one of the ugliest wins I've seen in a long time.

Big respect to Lomachenko, he showed a lot of heart at the end of the fight and was respectful in his defeat.

I agree with all of you haha

It was an ugly win for Salido and one we will look back on and cringe, the refereeing almost as bad as Smoger in Hopkins/Murat. But also it showed that Salido hates being the B side and his achievements in the ring should be recognised.

Lomachenko on the other hand, lost the match but probably won the hearts of many, many boxing fans. He can be very good, he just needs the right guidance and his warrior spirit is truly a breath of fresh air in 21st century boxing.

I might add a poll, just to see what many of you here think.

After seeing his 2nd pro fight made me a Lomachenko fan as well. He got skills but lacks pro experience. Give him a couple of tune-ups so he can tap and sharpen his hidden talents.

Eventually, he’ll mature as a fighter and be a force to reckon with.

You already know why, this is boxing. Cole was there to help facilitate a Salido win just like Ramos was there to facilitate a Chavez win.

That's not what happened. Kellerman asked him why he didn't punch Salido back in the balls like Orlando was doing to him, and Loma just said it's not something he does, he's a clean fighter. He didn't even complain about the low-blows during or after the fight, he just said "that's boxing".
